I too was looking for ‘record of no goals conceded.’ Keep going like the county 10 in a row and you’ll romp the league!

It is 10 games in a row with clean sheets for the 65's at Heywood, and 12 games since we lost (to Kingsmaid). 2022 - It's 20 games played. Won 8 Drawn 8 lost 4 (3 to Kingsmaid and 1 to Fleetwood). Conceded 7 (4 to Kingsmaid, 2 to Fleetwood, 1 to Preston). 2 of those were penalties. Happy with that. Since Covid return. I have played 32 games for the 65s at Heywood. 26 without conceding. (8 goals against - inc 3 pens).

Greater Manchester WF League Over 60's Div 2 October session.
Sorry forgot to post this when I was away last week. The 60's returned to Heywood for session 2 of 4 for the Autumn League.
vs Bolton D0-0 vs Carlisle W2-1 vs Bury D1-1 vs Preston D0-0
So 6 points won with the "Beast of Blackpool" returning to net all 3 goals (we really missed him in Sept). The table now reads:-
Bolton (+5) 13pts Bury (+6) 11pts Blackpool (+6) 9pts Preston (+5) 8pts Carlisle (+2) 6pts
A very close league and special mention to our centre half who deputised in nets and kept 2 clean sheets.

And today:-
Greater Manchester WF League Over 65's Div 2 October session.
Not quite the follow up to last month's stunning start. But we became better as we went on
vs Bolton L 0-1 (Deflected, well hit rolled back free-kick from last season's Division 1 relegated team) vs Panthers D 0-0 (We hit the post in the last seconds and it rolled along the line) vs Fleetwood D 0-0 (we missed a penalty so 2 more points escaped) vs Salcom W 2-0 (both our subs came on and scored, one aged 73 and one aged 75 !)
So just 5 points won but that could have been much worse and an awful lot better. The table now reads:-
Bolton (+12) 19pts Blackpool (+5) 17pts Chorley Panthers (+4) 8pts Salcom (+4) 6 pts Fleetwood (+2) 5pts
Close at the top but Bolton were by far the best side on the day and deserved leaders at the halfway stage. We lost our run of clean sheets but the record now stands at 1 goal conceded in the last 14 games. 17 clean sheets in 24 GMWFL games in 2023.
On we go. Next up is my return to Over 70s action (underage keeper rule). We are struggling for numbers due to illness, injury, hospitalisation and retirements. Hence, I will be helping them out. The 70s lie 4th out of 4 in Division 1 four points from safety.
Then my debut for the WFA North West England Over 70's team in a regional competition in Essex (Nov 4th). Dispensation given (I am only 68) as we have no keeper available. This is followed by our next Over 65's GMWF League outing and a trip to the Ilse of Man (Nov 12th). Exciting times.

Just catching up here, Banksy.
It's looking very tight at the top with Bolton, so it's going to be a very interesting second half of the campaign!
You're going to be very busy by the looks of it, mate, but it must be great to be so in-demand - thoroughly deserved, though!

A busy week of football so now chance to catch up. I was drafted into the 70s squad (underage allowed keeper) as we now have a new 60s goalie to play the following day.
Greater Manchester WF League November session
Wed 2nd Nov Over 70's Division 1
At the start of play the Senior Seasiders sat 4th and bottom of their league having obtained only 4pts from their Sept/Oct 6 games.
vs Bury D 0-0 (fairly even game but a good display against the league leaders) vs Rochdale D 0-0 (despite being absolutely hammered, I was able to get in the way of everything !!) vs Tameside W 1-0 (late penalty decider but we were by far the better team).
So a decent 5 points haul lifting the team into 3rd spot. All to play for in December.
Table Bury (+4pts) total 16 Rochdale (+7pts) total 16 Blackpool (+5pts) total 9 Tameside (+0pts) total 8
Tight at the top and the bottom !

WFA England Over 70's Regional Super Cup
Sat 5th Nov. Billericay Town FC ground.
Drafted in to help out the older regional senior squad (previous sessions held at Barnsley, Gloucester and Solihull). The regular keeper is now 76 and doesn't like to travel distances (I am now his permanent replacement for 2023 as I will be 69 in March and that is permissible).
A long drive down but a 2 night stay over dodging the raindrops on the day and flooding on the M25 coming home.
vs South West Region D 0-0 (penalty denied us in the opening minutes because "it was too early in the game !!!!)
vs South East Region B W 2-0 (comfortable win against their second string players)
vs South East Region A D 0-0 (denied a perfectly good goal because the ref had it in for our lively centre forward still arguing about the early penalty he didn't give)
North East did not appear on the day.
vs Central Region L 1-2 (another goal denied by the same referee against the same centre forward. An own goal conceded via a tired looking extra player "lent" to us from Central (believe it or not), he did a great job of sending me the wrong way. We equalized and then the ref sent our forward off for 3 fouls ! It gets better. As we pushed for the winner the spare defender broke through smashed a shot which I saved low down and their centre forward encroached the area and jabbed in the rebound, Ref said he was too far away to check his positioning despite 3 of their guys on the touchline saying he was in the D (The gloves came off and hit the changing room wall extremely hard 10 minutes later).
We were "northerned" out of it by a very suspect South East official. We couldn't have won the Trophy anyway due to previous results, but we came a creditable second overall. We were the only team expected to play 4 games back to back with no 15 minute break !! Very suspect.
Great set of guys from Fleetwood, Blackpool, Blackburn, Preston and Barnsley (and a South East loanee). So we had no subs available. Looks like we will be joining with the North East next season to become WFA North England 70's due to selection and availability issues.
Next up is a trip to the Isle of Man next Saturday with the Greater Manchester WF League Over 60s and 65s squads, to play their "national" side over the two days. 7am flight from Manchester !!!! Watch this space.

Greater Manchester WF League Reps team on Tour
Saturday 12th November
17 players, 2 managers and 3 WAGS embarked on their epic long haul trip of 27 minutes and 14 seconds to the Isle of Man (7am flight so a 3am start from sunny Blackpool). After a frantic security check (due to one person leaving his laptop in his backpack) the short hop saw us having a greasy spoon breakfast in "The Caff" on Lord Street, Douglas.
After a quick snooze in the Premier Inn off we went in the Isle of Man FC Mini-bus to St John's FC for a pair of representative games, 30 minutes each way. The 60s were to play the Isle's B team and the 65s their A team (reverse of fixtures on Sunday). The Youth squad made easy work of their game and were 5-1 ahead at half-time. We older chaps had a sterner test and deservedly led 2-1 at the break.
But things were to turn dark ! On the other pitch one of our players from Bolton collapsed and stopped breathing. CPR and the Defib was employed by the son of one of the Manx players who fortunately knew what he was doing. Ambulance arrived in 15 minutes and he was whisked off hospital. Obviously the games were abandoned and we returned to base in a very subdued atmosphere.
It was agreed that the "celebratory" evening meal for 40+ should go ahead in difficult circumstances. His family were flying over in the morning and we heard he was comfortable, stable and sedated.
The family insisted that we played on Sunday in honour of Ian who remained settled but in a controlled coma. The Manx tried to pull a fast one and changed their plans around in an attempt to salvage one win out of 4. They played the same teams against us but with a couple of fresh faces brought in to play for their A team against us oldies. It nearly worked.
They put us under pressure, defended well and led 1-0 at half-time capitalizing on a midfield mistake (replica of Saturday's goal against) within 2 minutes of a double substitution (again same as Saturday) while we re-organised. No panic though. Three brilliant second half goals gave us an excellent 3-1 victory. The Young Guns meanwhile ran out 9-1 winners on the other pitch.
A 75 minute tour of the island in the darkening hours by a scouse minibus driver was fairly entertaining taking in most of the west coast and the TT circuit. My roommate, Wai, from Blackpool located a Chinese Restaurant and 8 of us enjoyed the hospitality. Unbelievably it turned out Wai knew the owner of the place having performed with his dragon dancing group at his other places up and down England !!
Meanwhile, Ian remains on the island in hospital still sedated and we await further news. His wife is pleased that he was with us as she wouldn't have been able to perform CPR at home, no De-Fib would have been on hand and the ambulance would certainly not have arrived in 15 minutes ! He would not have survived.
A very interesting 60 hours away and one of very mixed emotions and happenings. Thoughts are with Ian and his family and we wait for further news.
