Some good news and some bad news.
Blackpool Old Gits did not win the Le Tissier Cup but we were not disgraced.
Most other teams have been playing a couple of years, outdoors, larger pitch and allow some quick walking !
We started with a 2-0 victory over the hosts Glossop which led to a false sense of achievement as we then went down 2-0 to Grimsby "Professionals" which included a very harsh penalty when I totaled the centre forward as I came for a punch on the edge of the area. Took him and the ball as he "walked under me". 30 years ago he wouldn't have got up.
A 1-1 draw in the play-offs saw us go out on sudden death penalties despite saving their first two. Sadly we missed our 3.
Two friendlies to finish with (both 0-0) brought a wonderful event to a close. Rotherham the overall winners, captained by Tommy Charlton the least known of the Charlton brothers !!!
The good news was - yours truly was presented with Player of the Tournament prize !!! A copy of "The Stupid Footballer is Dead" by Paul McVeigh.
I can tell you, the stupid footballer is very much alive and living in Blackpool !
Onward and upward.

Well done, Lennie - especially on your Player of the Tournament award. Fantastic stuff! Expect a queue of autograph-hunters at the next Heaveners' get-together...

No goals to boast about as I played in nets all Tournament.
Really, we were 2 players short all the time skillwise and subs. weakened the team. But when 8 guys have given up their day you have to play them as much as each other.
Cracking day and it didn't rain in Glossop - which must be a first.

Glad you had a good day Lennie! Is there an age limit on walking football? It seems more suitable to a man of my lack of stamina!
Congrats on player of the tournament!

Our group and the Tournament was limited to Over 50's (our average age was 63!!!!) although one team from Rochdale were Stroke Victim Recovery players and were (sadly) mainly in their 30's and 40's. Nothing wrong in setting up your own mini-leagues if you can gather enough players together.
