I just did a quick google but it does look like something is in the pipeline for it. Didn't read much into it being at work but it said that this league would eventually go towards Fifa world rankings and even World Cup qualifications.

Thanks, Maccy, my idea wasn't to include qualifying and it was to eliminate friendlies altogether and just earn ranking points, but it's better than the system we have now.

Great idea Gazza. Even a semi-competitive tournament like the four nations cup would be good! We used to have one every year ............ It was called the Home Championship. England, Wales, Scotland and N Ireland. It may not be as competitive now but at least we would stand a chance of winning something (even if Scottish supporters returned north every other year with parts of Wembley Stadium with them).

Now that Hayley's gone, I suppose his options are limited.

Gazza, isn't there going to be a Nations League as of 2018 that replaces boring friendlies? I'm sure i heard recently it's either been given the go ahead of they've all voted for it? No idea, mate, I have honestly never read or heard of the idea anywhere before, it just came to me earlier. If it is going to happen, then brilliant, someone finally knows what they're doing! Here are some of the details... www.caughtoffside.com/2014/03/27/uefa-launches-nations-league-to-replace-international-friendlies/Sounds like a great idea to me.

Having read it in more detail, it provides us with a tournament system between the major competitions that is perfect for bringing young prospects through to the full international arena, and should rid us of the need to hang onto ageing players for one more World Cup or Euros. However, I'm not sure that qualifying places should be up for grabs though, because that puts more pressure on the managers to treat them as qualifiers rather than squad development matches, and would then in turn force them to stick with the 'old guard' more often than not.
My idea was to give us the chance to get rid of the old 'uns earlier, and give the kids more chances to play with the more experienced players earlier in their careers than usual, when they're raw but talented and have less fear of failure.

The Four/Home Nations would be perfect for that or maybe a Divisional system each year. The likes of Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands etc making up Division 1 all down to like Division 6 with the likes of Luxembourg and Liechtenstein etc with one promotion and one relegation from each. Works perfectly in ice hockey to blood new players as teams want to win but it's not as heartbreaking to lose!

That would mean the Sixth Division for Wales... !

At least you'd definitely win it!
San Marino, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Gibraltar and Wales must be considered a great group even by Welsh standards!

I think in Wales' case, and other nations with smaller populations and pools of players to choose from, they should maybe go into the same groups so no one country has a massive advantage. Maybe that's a daft idea? I don't know, but it's far from fair if you ask me. At least they haven't gone down the FAI route where they recruited anyone whose Grandfather drank Guinness!

Germany are the worst for that, they have a massive population and STILL pluck players from other nations!
