Grimsby have sacked their manager. From BBC Sport: "We've been talking at length for the past two weeks in particular. The performances haven't been bad but there's something which isn't in the data which tells us that we're not getting the rub of the green, so we feel like it's time to turn the page. The underlying performances are not that bad, but actually that doesn't equate to positioning in the league" Eh? Nothing like applying logic and sacking the manager when things haven't gone your way. Some football chairman/owners don't half talk some shite.

Morecambe's gaffer, Derek Adams has left the building, seemingly of his own choice and is likely to be off to Ross County for a third spell in charge.... I've got to say I've been struck by how good a job he seems to have done for them - 9th place in L2 and, as I recall, having a wafer thin squad at the start of the season. Where this leaves the Shrimpers I dunno, but they've exceeded my expectations this season. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67474667

Not entirely surprising. I sometimes think that players and managers alike have a limited shelf life. After a while the b*ll*ckings just don't work any more and they just need to move on, sad but true of so much in life.

Some weird stuff going on p Tranmere beat Salford 1-5 (including a goal for Connor Jennings) and Rock Bottom Sutton beat AFC Wombles 1-0....
Tranmere looked almost certain relegation candidates and if they strengthen in Jan and carry on like they are they may even flirt with the playoff zone. Sutton at least showing signs of life and Salford are dropping steadily. Still looks like Sutton and FGR to go but there are several sides showing weakness and you never know....

Just looking at Tranmere again, their last 8 L2 games W 5 D 2 L 1. Ws against FGR 3-0, Gillingham 3-1, Newport 2-1, Swindon 2-1 and Salford 1-4. Ds Mansfield 2-2, Sutton 1-1, L Walsall 1-0.
Not a bad little run that, not many conceded either. Maybe a late run at the playoffs? With a good January Transfer window of course....

Just having a quick look at Salford - oh dear. They last won 0-3 v Donny back on 24th Oct. Since then:
D Barrow 0-0 L Mansfield 1-2 L Gillingham 3-1 L MKD 2-4 D County 0-0 D Wombles 0-0 L Cole U 2-1 L Tranmere 1-5
W 0 D 3 L 5 F 6 A 16. Leaves them 6 pts above the drop zone, along with Cole U who are on a similarly poor run. I fancy one of FGR and Sutton to maybe scrape to survival.... just.

And just looking at Barrow they're in a bit of a stiff run at the moment:
Dec: W v Crewe 1-3 D County 2-2 29th Dec Accy Stanley (h)
Jan 1st Jan Wrexham (a) 6th Tranmere (h) 13th Sutton 20th Crewe (h) 27th Notts (a)
Feb 3rd MKD (h) Wombles (a)
Quite a testing 10 game run with 2 v Crewe (if they can find some form) plus Notts, Wrexham, County, and MKD and Wombles both in the playoff mix - so 7 out of 10 v top sides We may be about to find out how real their challenge for automatic promotion is...

Mansfield 0 -Crewe 1 - White 2 mins
Mansfield had 20 shots, 2 on target per the BBC.
They now have 1 game in hand, trail by 2 pts, but really 3 given that we have a better GD.

Not sure it would have made much difference given how lacklustre county were
