Bit late but here's my observations.
Firstly, great pre-match catch up with the CHers and nice to chat to some friendly locals too.
To say there were 4 goals in the game it was pretty poor in my opinion. When I saw the team sheet I was a bit worried but needn't have been as Toddy jnr, Charlie Russel, Connor Hancock and Wes Benjamin all played very well.
The 5-4-1 didn't really work in the first half primarily because the back 5 were too rigid. Toddy and Benjamin were very accomplished defensively but without Jacobs and Duxberry there wasn't much overlapping or offense from deep meaning the midfield and striker(s) were too far apart. County had a lot of possesion but it was mainly going between the back five and midfield then back again before a long ball to Spencer who was being marked by a 6'7" centre half.
The first Lowerstoft penalty looked soft from where I was (at the other end of the pitch). The striker looked to have lost control of the ball and O'Halloran ran across is path. Chatting with other CHers at half time and apparently it was a stone waller so I'll stand corrected on that one.
Start of second half and Jack Ryan (or was it Ryan Jack?!) came on and we changed formation (yaaay). This changed the game for me, as we were now a lot more attacking. The new back four seemed as solid as when it was a back five.
County's penalty was an odd decision. Spencer's head was down but I think he got to the ball first then got a boot in the head. If it happened outside the penalty box no-one would have complained about it being a free kick so in my view it was the right decision.
The only piece of skill in the whole game was Spencer's goal. Not sure where it came from. Good link up play in the build up but there didn't seem to be any danger for Lowerstoft then wallop! top corner thank you very much.
Lowerstoft's second penalty was certainly very soft. A shamozzle in the box and in the pin-balling around a player goes down. It looked a dive to me. I can sort of understand the brew haha that followed. Shame that we're going to have another suspended player especially as the squad is very thin at the moment.
My mom is Spencer. Worked hard first half with nothing but scraps then he produced the only quality in the game. The youngsters were all excellent and didn't look out of place at all, debutant Wes Benjamin in particular. On a slightly negative note I thought, Wilkinson and Glover were both poor. Maybe not helped by the formation in the first half but even so they have to give us more than they did on Saturday.

the midfield and striker(s) were too far apart. My mom is Spencer. firstly, your mom is spencer? did you get her something nice yesterday?!? i've mentioned the gap between midfield and forwards a few times in reports. frustrating, isn't it? you can't have whole areas of the team isolated and expect to get positive results. cheers for the report.
