With the Lowie away game coming up in a few weeks if anybody would like any advice or help in planning the trip to Lowestoft then please ask.
As far as how Lowestoft are playing i went along on Saturday again to watch them against Colwyn Bay and must say it was one of the worst games of football ive seen in a long time.
Lowestoft have currently got some big injury worries and this has been impacted with what is probably the worst discipline record in the division.
Although they have signed Danny Crow ( im sure we had him on trail a few years ago) and he is playing well alongside a forward they have resigned called Jake Reed they are both good at running in behind and are both good finishes.
I should be going again to watch them on the 28th which is against Stalyvegas - so i will have great please of thanking King for his winning goal last week. - I always get strange looks from the visiting teams when they see me in the bar with my County Hat and Coat on.

that's right DPC - we had danny briefly.
any particular tips for the drive, or is the standard routeplanner/satnav route likely to be ok (if hellishly long)?

I cant even guess how many miles Lowestoft is from us and how long it would take to get there.
I am guessing the fish and chips should be great though..

Well after many years (26)of doing the trip to Stockport from Lowestoft the options are
The way I normally go is
Head towards Newark for the A17 you can go rather A623 Chesterfield - A617 Mansfield or Via Worksop then A1 to Newark -From Newark Stay on A17 then A47 you can come off at Norwich A146 for Lowestoft or carry on A47 to Great Yarmouth then come South on the A12.
Warning - from Newark it feels like your driving to the end of the world!!!!
Option 2
Head South on M6 or M1 and come off on the A14 then A11 to Norwich and join the A47 or stay on the A14 and A143 at Bury St Edmunds and stay on that road till you join the A146. - Traffic can be VERY bad round Swinford where M6, M1 and A14 join.
There is a direct train to Norwich from Stockport and then a train to Lowestoft - WARNING - If you are thinking of going via London on Train there is Engineering work out of London at weekends and a Bus service is running for some of the Journey from London Liverpool St.
If anybody wants any Hotel or B&B info just ask

Many thanks for starting us off here, dpc. It is excellent to have the benefit of your local knowledge for what would otherwise, for many of us, have been a trip into the complete unknown!
The Family Macc is travelling across for this one, and we have just sorted out some accommodation inland from Southwold. Should be a good weekend... result permitting.
In the hope that you don't mind, I have converted this into an early Match Thread. Hope, too, that there may be the opportunity for travelling Heaveners to meet you at the game; any nice pubs near the ground?

Southwold is good if not a bit pricey place- £90k for a beach hut!!! - Lots of nice places to eat and go - Southwold pier is a nice stroll and a good place for fish and chips.
Walberswick Bay(next to southwold) is were the world crabbing championship is held and is always a good way to spend a hour or so and loads of places selling Crab lines - Top tip take a pack of bacon for bait!

Pubs near Crown Meadow
There is a Club bar in the club house at the ground which will be open from about 12noon as they will show BT sports its clean and tidy and drinks not badly priced.
The Havelock - Opposite the ground Factory Arms - Raglan St - 5 minute walk
Both these pubs are small local pubs nothing fancy just back street pubs.
There is a Weatherspoons in the Town Centre opposite the Train Station called "Joseph Conrad" which is a normal JD, cheap drink and cheap food.
Just a short walk over the Bridge there is a few Pubs that also do food - The Harbour Inn and the Icon all do good food and are family friendly.
I would not recommend Spring Tide which is next to Asda - The food is awful.

Fantastic - thanks for all the additional information. Hopefully, we Heaveners can arrange a pre-match meet-up in Lowie, using this. (Any views, fellow travellers?!)

I have got about 6 family members travelling down on the friday and staying with me for the game that weekend - But i should be in the Club House before the game.
Admission Price at the ground is £12 and the Chili Van behind the far goal is worth a visit.

I'm planning on being there - probably drive but maybe the train, not sure yet - if we don't meet in a pub - what's the beach like - nice day - picnic? Pub is also fine The Beach - Okay the Seafront (beach part) is mainly South of the Bridge and between two piers although the first part of this beach nearest to the bridge has basicly disappeared with erosion over the years and is currently undergoing sea defense work, which considering when i moved here 26 years ago this was the main beach with a childrens corner. The best part to go for a walk will be from the Claremont Pier www.google.co.uk/maps/place/The+Edge+Bar/@52.4655949,1.7464205,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0xbe4ff1b67bf817c9 and going south towards Pakefield. Bewarned if the wind is blowing it will cut you into two. So make sure you are dressed for arctic. The Hatfield Hotel www.hotelhatfield.co.uk/ just before the Claremont Pier is nice for food or just a drink and overlooks the sea. The Iconic is also nice and is just a 5 minute walk from train station just over the bridge and next to the south Pier on the seafront www.iconiclowestoft.co.uk/ - This is a good option for food as they do meal deals There is 3 Pay and Display car parks along the seafront and plenty of free street parking.
