Hilarious episode last night:- I was refereeing the youngsters (50-65s group) at our training session, 9 a side from 8-9pm under floodlights. It was hard work trying to keep an eye on 18 bodies on a larger pitch for 3 x 18 minute games. All very fair and only one serious issue to deal with, the blue (temporary suspension) and red cards remained in my pocket. So i was mentally drained at the end. We finished bang on 9pm (on my watch). As we walked off I was berated by an Under 15's manager coming on for the next hour as the pitch wasn't ready for his squad and "he had to wait to get on ". I showed him my watch (still at 9pm) he took out his phone which showed 9.02 !!!! I didn't think it was worth falling out over 2 minutes. He was adamant that bookings were only for 55 minutes, so I pointed out that we didn't get on until 8.10 (previous group late finish) so technically we had another 5 minutes to go then !!! He was not amused. Our two team managers and captains waded in to tell him to "piss off" but he continued arguing. I reasonably pointed out that there was another 1/4 pitch he could have come onto to warm up and be ready for 9.02 and I rubbed salt into the wounds by indicating it was now 9.10 and he had lost a full 10 minutes of his precious hour. He was left looking rather silly in front of 18 baying teenagers. Don't think he will be getting manager of the month award this time. The best thing though was he was only 5ft 4 inches or so and really didn't stand a chance against half a dozen 6 foot plus gnarled veterans. Next week will be interesting. Football really does bring the worst out in some people, I certainly wouldn't want to have any kid of mine playing for a coach like him. Well done on keeping your cool and beating him down with logic, Banksy.

GMWFL (Heywood) Over 70s Autumn League - November Report
Blackpool 0 Bury 1 - Missed our penalty for area encroachment and then conceded one for 4 contact fouls !!!! Dispatched in the bottom corner. Our pen. hit their keeper on the arm, hit the bar and came down on the line (some spectators did say it had gone in. Rub of the green !!!!
Blackpool 0 Corinthians 1 - Another loss to the league leaders from a penalty for encroachment. The annoying thing was I had just turned a fierce low shot onto the post. Went the wrong way for the pen. got a foot to it but it crept in.
Blackpool 0 Rochdale 0. - A game of few chances and a very predictable result.
Blackpool 0 Man Cityzens 0 - Interesting game. We played 5 v 5 as they had a player red carded for goal scoring opportunity denied in the previous game and no sub available. We took the high moral ground and felt we couldn't play 5 v 6. A very open game with not one foul for running or contact in the whole game. More chances and shots on goal. Could have been 5/6 each.
Corinthians (+10) 24 points Bury (+8) 19 Rochdale (+5) 14 Man City (+1) 9 Blackpool (+2) 8
We have a better GD than City so all to play for at the end of November (no fixtures in Dec).
P12 W0 D8 L4 F2 A 6. Both our goals were pens and 4/6 conceded were pens. A Keepers life is not a happy one.
Next up:- Wed 8th Nov - Greater Manchester League Rep Team vs Cheshire League (called into the Over 60s !!) Mon 13th Nov - NW England Region - 8 team competition in Gloucester. Thur 16th Nov - GMWFL Over 65s - not available. On G/Parent duty in Basingstoke. GK cover from our 60s shotstopper. Wed 29th Nov - GMWFL Over 70s - Final 4 games in Division 1 for the Autumn series.

Greater Manchester League vs Cheshire League (Heywood 8th Nov)
The Over 60s and Over 65s GMWFL squads took on the Cheshire League who split their teams into Over60/65s joint ages as Cheshire East and Cheshire West
Having previously been asked to play for the 60s I was "promoted back" to the 65s as a stand in 60s Keeper was found.
GMWFL 60s 2 Cheshire East 60/65s 2 GMWFL 65s 1 Cheshire West 60/65s 0 (penalty for "Denying a Goal Scoring Opportunity" dispatched with aplomb)
GMWFL 60s 3 Cheshire West 60/65s 1 GMWFL 65s 2 Cheshire East 60/65s 1 (comfortable win despite an early Christmas gift from me to let them back into the match)
So the GMWFL 65s were the only team to take maximum points from the friendly games. Fairly quiet morning for me in atrocious weather conditions (4 seasons in 50 minutes). A couple of decent saves from distance in the first game. Second game we were 2 up with 3 minutes to go when I went to roll the ball out. I saw a player moving across the line, tried to stop but the ball shot out of my hand straight to their centre forward who slotted home with comfort. Made up for it with the last touch of the game - a full length, bottom corner stunner turned away for a corner. Amends fully made.
Next Monday - NW 65s Region (2 teams) in Gloucester. vs SW (x2) SE (x2), Central and NE. Busy, busy

Excellent stuff. So it appears you are almost human after all! The recovery save after an error shows true strength of character.

Inaugural WFA England Regional Over 65s Friendly Tournament.
First gathering of the 65s age group regional sides as a prelude to 2024's Super Cup to be played over 3 sessions at various venues. North West entered 2 fairly equal teams, as opposed to a first and second selection, to ensure all bases were covered positionally.
8 squads - 2 x NW, 2 x SW, 2 x SE, 1 x Central and 1 x NE. 7 games round robin style - 8 minutes each way (very windy conditions and the occasional squally shower drifting in.
Yours truly selected for the North West Blues.
vs NW Greens - D 0-0 - fairly even game, couple of good saves to keep out our hat-trick hero from the GMWFL side of last week. vs NE - W 1-0 - again a couple of decent saves to stop the present England 60s striker. vs SE Blacks - W 1-0 - quite game for me only called into serious action once but it helped the cause. vs Central - L 0-1 - nightmare goal conceded. Long shot from a free kick dipped and swerved and I could only help it in the net. Not my finest hour, but made up for it with a top corner palm away from the same "England 65s colleague". Early Christmas present for him. vs SW Blacks - W 1-0 - we should have had 3 or 4 but played the game out easily after an early 2nd half goal. vs SE Orange - D 0-0 - on paper they were the strongest team (3 England 65s mates playing). 3 good saves to keep out our National Squad top scorer. vs SW Whites - L 0-1 - we battered them !!! Almost gave them a goal in the first half when a short back pass didn't reach the area and I managed to block the shot somehow. Then with 2 minutes to go, and us pressing, the winger broke away (at speed !!), cut in and smashed one straight at me from 6 yards on the near post, which knocked me over. It could have rebounded anywhere but Sod's Law dictated that it went directly back to him for a simple tap in. We woz robbed !!!!
We finished a creditable 4th out of 8 with 11 points. The NW Greens came second only on GD with 4 wins and 3 draws 15 points behind Central also on 15 points.
If we had drawn with Central we would have been 2nd and our NW Greens would have won !! Small margins in very tight games. Great to see 60 or so over 65s competing at a very high level in difficult conditions.
12 hour round trip altogether but great comradeship between our 16 representatives who normally play each against other and great to meet up with guys from all over England.

Greater Manchester WF Over 65s Autumn League - Nov Session. Division 1.
Third session with the big boys and not a good day for the Senior Seasiders. 3 players missing. Centre half in New Zealand, Centre Forward on crutches and yours truly on Grandparent duty down south. Our 60's (under age) keeper stepped up to the mark and was concerned with out lack of fire power up front and a couple of silly penalties conceded. The boy did well.
Blackpool 0 Corinthians 1 Blackpool 0 Preston 1 A crucial set back to our closest rivals Blackpool 0 Bolton 2 Best team in the division who now go top Blackpool 0 Bury 0
Bolton (+10pts) 22 Corinthians (+6 pts) 21 Bury (+5pts) 18 Preston (+6pts) 10 Blackpool (+1pt) 7
Not looking good and Blackpool/Preston game will be very important in December (as will the Bolton/Corinthians match).
Sadly the statistics don't lie. 12 games and only 1 goal scored and now 8 conceded. I think we may be back in the comfort zone of Division 2 in March.

Mixed fortunes at Heywood for the December fixtures at 70s and 60s this time around. Unfortunately I missed this one having picked up Grandchild Lurgy last week from my delightful tribe !!!!!
GMWFL December Over 70's
Blackpool 0 Corinthians 0 Blackpool 0 Bury 1 (penalty - again) Blackpool 0 Rochdale 2 (wicked deflection and yet another penalty) Blackpool 0 Man Cityzens 0
The day started badly with 4 regular players missing (Steve H, Dave P, Alan A and Tom F) then a hold up on the journey meaning a last minute arrival. Centre forward Fred W pulled up with a returning hamstring problem early in the first game and Steve W playing with a shoulder injury. So no subs available for the rest of the morning.
Final Table Corinthians (+10) 34 points Bury (+7) 26 Rochdale (+5) 19 Man Cityzens (+2) 11 Blackpool (+2) 10
So relegation to Division 2 for the 2024 Spring Season.
P16 W0 D10 L6 F2 (both pens) A9 (inc 6 pens) points 10. Just not quite good enough all season.
GMWFL December Over 60's
Blackpool 1 Corinthians 0 Blackpool 2 Panthers 0 Blackpool 1 Bolton 0 (second victory against the Division leaders) Blackpool 1 Rochdale 1
Final Table Bolton (+7) 30 points Blackpool (+10) 25 Rochdale (+6) 19 Panthers (+1) 18 Corinthians (+2) 10
So runners up slot and a trophy for the cabinet. Well done squad.
