Next up:-
A surprise last minute call up to the 65s England squad to play N Ireland 60s tomorrow at Burton Albion.
The other keeper, Alan, is sadly delayed in Turin with the airport closed after the tragic flying accident there over the weekend. Thoughts go out to the family of the little girl who died from flying debris. Not a good news day really.

Despite the 4 hour 120 mile journey due to the M62 hold up it was a good day for England Over 65s.
As I arrived 15 minutes prior to kick off I had to settle for the second game against N Ireland Over 60's B squad who proved a bit of a handful as we experimented with a couple of new players and changes in positions. All 4 games were 20 minutes each way.
England 65s 3 N Ireland 60s A 1 Three nil up and cruising as they couldn't handle the inter-passing and movement. England 70s 2 N Ireland 60s B 2 Last kick penalty equaliser for England against a busy Irish side.
England 65s 4 N Ireland 60s B 0 Quite a busy game but a clean sheet for yours truly. Pleased with my performance. England 70s 2 N Ireland 60's A 3 Didn't see much of this but a deserved win for the Irish boys.
3 and a half hours return journey. Long day but cap number 3 bagged for the bragging wall.

Fantastic, Banksy, these clean sheets are like shelling peas to you, mate! Many congrats on your third cap! 19/20 at national level, Gazza. Fabulous defence to play behind and goals from all over the place at the other end. A bit like playing for Liverpool in the 70's !!!

Greater Manchester WF Over 65s Autumn League - Sept Session. Division 1.
Having been runners up 3 seasons on the bounce before finally clinching the Division 2 title it was now time to step up and play "big boy" football with Bury (the perennial champions) Corinthians (previous winners) and Bolton and Preston who had left us behind with previous promotions. Very Sadly (!!!) Kingsmaid had withdrawn from the League due to a reluctance for their stars to travel from Carlisle, Redcar, Wirral, the Scottish Borders and Kendal.
Unfortunately, Corinthians (who had, thus, been reprieved from relegation) brought in the 3 Manchester based Kingsmaid players to bolster their squad.
And....................... the tough task was proved to be.
Blackpool 0 Corinthians 1 (a second minute penalty for area encroachment lost us the game. I pushed it on to the left hand post only for it to run along the line and hit the other post and creep in. We then missed our penalty for "denying a goal scoring opportunity" hitting the crossbar/post join. We also hit the post late on with them down to 5 men and hanging on) Blackpool 0 Preston 0 (fairly even game but we had little going forward. I had to be alert 3 times late on the secure our first point) Blackpool 0 Bolton 0 (Very much second best, and a couple of crucial saves. One we got away with) Blackpool 0 Bury 2 (Disaster time. It could and should have been 5. Two basic defensive errors in a dangerous area gave their brilliant striker a couple of one and one chances which he truly dispatched, one in each bottom corner. Not happy. At least I denied him a hat-trick (twice).
Statistics - 4 games - 4 shots, 2 blocked, one hit crossbar (penalty) one hit the post. Bad day at the office.
Bury 10 points GD 4 Corinthians 7 GD 1 Bolton 5 GD 0 Preston 2 GD -2 Blackpool 2 GD -3
Lots to improve on then. 3 players missing in October though.

GMWFL (Heywood) Over 70s Autumn League - October Report
Blackpool 0 Bury 1 - it was good to see Bury striker,,Ken Bugie back in action for Bury after such a long recovery, until he scored from a very tight angle late on in the game. A fair result though.
Blackpool 1 Corinthians 2 - Blackpool scored through a 4 foul penalty only to be the victims of their own downfall conceding TWO penalties (4 foul tot up and an area encroachment) in the final 90 seconds. Self implosion !!!
Blackpool 0 Rochdale 0. - A penalty hitting the post was the difference between earning 1 rather than 3 points.
Blackpool 0 Man Cityzens 0 - A tired game but at least we came away with a hard earned point. Could so easily have been 8 points gained rather than a measly 2.
Corinthians 14 points Bury 11 Rochdale 9 Man City 8 Blackpool 6
As you can imagine there was some serious glove chucking action on the morning. It didn't help when, against Corinthians, I tipped a shot on to the cross bar which came crashing back to hit me on the side of the head driving it into the ground. Thankfully the ball bounced out for a corner. still feeling a little wuzzy 3 days later. Delayed concussion.
