Sounding increasingly competitive, great work between the sticks. Knowing you’d saved two penalties already was obviously playing on the mind of the Fleetwood player!

Awesome, Lennie! Did you do the old 'spaghetti legs' routine to freak the takers out?

Awesome, Lennie! Did you do the old 'spaghetti legs' routine to freak the takers out? You've seen me in action ! Stand tall, slightly to one side. Wave the arms and look them in the eye. Watch their non kicking foot placement and ....... wait. Don't go too early and big strong hands. Either that or shut the eyes and guess.

Greater Manchester WF League Over 65's Div 2
Blackpool 1 Chorley Panthers 0 (saved a penalty) Blackpool 0 Fleetwood 0 (both teams missed a penalty) Blackpool 1 Preston 0 (they were not happy !!! Unbeaten until then in 6 matches) Blackpool 0 Rochdale 0 (should have taken my deckchair)
Won 2 Drew 2 - so after 8 games in 2 sessions we have 13 points and sit second behind Preston on 17 having overtaken Fleetwood now on 12 from last month. P8 W3 Drew 4 Lost 1. Chorley and Rochdale getting left behind to play for the wooden spoon. 8 games still to go though.
We have a much better balanced team and a couple of goalscorers which we have missed in previous years.
(PS I didn't play in September due to England team duties)

I had a brief career as a goalkeeper having volunteered for it after our keeper was dismissed for chinning our opponents centre forward. I went on to win a penalty shootout by saving 4 penalties by adopting the same technique. I claim no credit for it myself but I'd once heard the former Ipswich 'keeper Paul Cooper (ended his career at County if memory serves and who saved a significant number of penalties himself) describe it as his technique. He used to stand slightly to the left of centre because he was right-handed and found it easier to dive to his right.

It's a double edged sword being off centre.
Some guys think you intend to go the way of the larger area and then go the other way. It just makes them over think the kick.
Best to watch their eyes and see where they plant the non-kicking foot.
9 penalties faced in 17 games so far at Heywood in Sept/Oct. Saved 5, 3 missed and 1 disallowed !!!! A bit easier in WF sized goals though.
Good performance Woz.

Greater Manchester WF League Over 70's October.
Afraid the Very Senior Seasiders had a very bad day at the office last Thursday losing all 3 games 1-0 without my services.
They go bottom of the league for now with 2 sessions in November and December to go.

Greater Manchester League Over 60's Division 2 results (Nov 4th)
Blackpool 0 Kingsmaid 1 (Their goal in off the far post and we missed a penalty !) Blackpool 1 Corinthians 0 (bizarre own goal from a corner off their keeper and the near post !) Blackpool 0 Purple Panthers 0 (could have played for 3 days and neither side would have scored) Blackpool 0 Fleetwood 1 (Little scuffer of a shot that skidded under my hand at full stretch - should have done better)
Not a good day, but could have been worse. Looks like we hang on to 2nd place, just, now by goal difference from Fleetwood who did have a good day. Kingsmaid are 9 points clear and should be crowned division champions in December.

Can’t be Mr Clean sheets every week. Sometimes it’s those fine margins that ultimately you cannot effect. Onwards and upwards!

Greater Manchester League Over 65's November Series
Blackpool 1 Panthers 0 (pen to us and I saved a late pen from them) Blackpool 0 Fleetwood 0 (4 missed chances from us and another late pen save from yours truly) Blackpool 1 Preston 1 (Cracking goal from us a top corner late pen equalizer given away when we were bossing the game) Blackpool 2 Rochdale 0 (Don't think I had a shot to save should have been 4-0)
Early indications are that the league stands like this going into the final 4 games in December Preston 23 pts (6 pts today) Blackpool 21 (8 pts today) Fleetwood 18 (6 pts today) Panthers 10 (3 pts yesterday) Rochdale 5 (1 pt yesterday)
A good set of results tightening up the top of the league. Shame we conceded a last minute penalty to Preston when well in control of the game. That win would have put us top of the pile).
