Privileged to have been part of of your defence that day, Sir... even though I was completely reliant on your telling me where to boot it!

WFA National 1st round scores
Over 50s - lost to 3rd Space Bolton 6-10. (match under review due to refereeing issues being scrutinized) Bolton had Keith Hill playing for them who scored 6 goals !!!!! Small walled pitch. Over 60's - won against Garstang 2-1. Excellent game in very hot weather.
Over 65's - lost 1-6 to Blackburn (National Champions at this age ranged). Played on a small walled pitch which didn't help us.
All games 20 minutes each way.

WFA 2nd Round Over 60's Result
Blackpool FC Senior Seasiders 5 vs Fleetwood Flyers 4
20 minutes each way on a boarded pitch. Fiery and feisty as you would expect for a local derby. Blackpool quickly out of the blocks with a 2 goal lead, Fleetwood came back 3 times from 2-0, 3-1 and 5-2. The Tangerines managed to hang on in a very close game.
Goals from Dave Roberts 2, Mike Lee 2 and Alan Cole.
Well played Senior Seasiders

Thriller! Well played, Lennie and the 'Pool. Very pleased with my performance today. Especially the low one hander in the bottom corner in the last 20 seconds !! I have a throbbing headache though. Took one in the face and smashed my head back on to the post. No damage - goals still intact.

Return to action at Heywood for the Greater Manchester WF League today.
A few old friends "missing" and a lot more grey hair and bald patches on show after a 20 month hiatus. Some new faces as the youngsters have attained the age of acceptance for this age group.
Over 60's - Division 2 - first round of matches.
Lost 0-1 to Stockport Team Kingsmaid (Basically the NW England squad) Won 2-0 vs Manchester Corinthians Whites (saved a penalty) Won 1-0 vs Chorley Purple Panthers Won 2-0 vs Fleetwood Flyers (Described as the Tram Stop Derby)
9 point haul leaves us in second position behind a very strong Team Kingsmaid. 3 months and 12 games to go.
65s turn in 2 weeks time (I'm on England Training duty that day) 70s turn later in the month
Nice to be back in action.

At last we have a team that can score goals !! Takes a lot of pressure off the defence.
And................. "The Beast of Blackpool" turns 60 in January. He will make a huge difference next Spring.

Martin Dawson Memorial Trophy (at Heywood) Over 60's North of England Invitational. (16 top class teams in 4 leagues of 4) 25 minute games. (Accumulated 4 team fouls for a penalty)
vs Sheffield D 0-0 (they missed a penalty off the cross bar, think I got a slight touch)
vs Halifax W 2-0 (I saved a penalty at 0-0)
vs Carlisle W 1-0 ( we missed a pen. Their penalty was disallowed for more than 1 step. Then we scored a penalty)
So we were runners up in our league to Sheffield by a 1 goal difference. They were 5-1 to our 3-0.
4 Winners into the Championship Finals 4 Runners Up into the Plate Competition.
Plate Semi Final
vs Roach (Rochdale) W 1-0
Final
vs Bury L 0-1 (who are a excellent team from a division higher than us in the monthly league)
Plate Runners up Trophy for the Cabinet. Only team to concede a single goal in the afternoon. Good performance with 3 vital players missing.

WFA Over 60's 3rd Round National Comp.
Blackpool 1 Kingsmaid 4
A depleted Blackpool side made a good attempt to make progress in the national competition. However, Kingsmaid, fielding 5 NW England squad players, proved too strong over the 40 minutes to deservedly win the game.
Pool, with 6 members of the Over 65's turning out due to holidays, injuries and illness, found themselves 2 down after the first 15 minutes but pulled one back just before half-time.
At 3-1 the team rallied again and finished with some expectation but then conceded a late goal.
We wish Kingsmaid all the best in the NW final vs Bolton later this month and the National Finals in October.

Hard luck, 'Pool. Sounds as if you were up against some old masters there.
