One slight glimmer of hope as Jaén failed to score today and so the top three are ourselves on 55, Jaén on 56 and Marbella, who won today on 57!
Five games to go. Marbella play four of the top eight in these, Jaén play three and we play two; in our final two games. Of our five games I will be going to four as our final away game is at Málaga B which we will be going to as a group outing!

Regardless of what happens from here, Duds, the boys can be seriously proud of how well they've done, it's been an incredible effort to be within touching distance with just a handful of games to go.

So this weekend sees the mighty marineros of El Palo host Torredonjimeno. Who descend from the tower of big boss Jimeno to enjoy a Sunday lunchtime excursion at the coast. A win for the home side will see us climb to the top of the table, one point clear of Marbella and then Jaén one point further afield. They both kick off five hours after ourselves. Let’s hope we can apply some pressure… Our opponents have played the other top four sides in their last four games, losing at home to Marbella; drawing away to Real Jaén and defeating Torre del Mar at home last week, so they will not be a pushover. They have failed to score only twice since Christmas. Fingers crossed and voices ready. Vamoooooooooooooo

So another weekend and another home win! What a fantastically controlled performance from start to finish. We played a high tempo, high pressure game and although they came to play football, rather than deny us the opportunity of doing so, we were rarely troubled. After a string of half chances, just before half time an excellent ball down the line saw Victor Vasquez into the box only to be scythed down. Up stepped ‘Tanque’ (yes that means tank) Silva to smash home the penalty 1-0!Unfortunately for him and his adoring army of Boca fans, they were not present. We made enough noise anyway!! After the break we continued to play the game in their final it’s and looked controlled at the back, just short of the hour mark Destiny looked to finish from close range but the keeper appeared to push it clear. Not according to the linesman who said the ball had crossed the line! 2-0. Apart from moment of suicidal defending, when their right sided midfielder managed to hit the bar when clean through, our defence was as solid as a rock. For a few hours then, we were clear at the top of the league, sadly both Jaén and Marbella also managed home wins so the top three remains as it was. Four cup finals to go!

I'm watching this on my phone and my eyes aren't at their best having just woken up (I've just embarked on five straight weeks of nights this week), but it looked like The Boys played some decent football there and that was an excellently taken penalty from Silva too!
Cheers for posting, Duds!

This weekend sees the El Palo Ingles on a non football related trip to Cartagena, where some of the group have a house. Amazing city full of history and a pool and pool table too…
We are away to Torreperogil just the 261km away! Marbella are away to Almeria which is a 265km trek. Jaén travel across the Alborán Sea to Melilla (who have 5 points and six goals all season) a journey as the crow flies of 286 km!

Enjoy. Oddly enough, 261km is pretty much the distance between Edgeley Park and the County Ground in Swindon.
