I thought I’d start a self indulgent little thread with ‘match reports’ and general match day experiences to accompany the new season.

Last week, the season started away to the mighty Atlético Porcuna, or as I like to think of them ‘The athletic porcupines’ after taking the lead just after half time with Cala penalty El Palo were unable to hold on to the lead for long and conceded just 5 minutes later. Unbeaten on the road though! Now on the road needs a little explanation just the 195km to Porcuna… but still in Andalusia so it counts. Their team bus will clock up some serious mileage this season!

"Day one" "Went to the beach, got a tan, felt great, then came back to my lovely Villa to take some stunning photos of the view from my window.............Brexit?.... meh! What's that, County lost again? Ah, well, the forecast said it's going to be sunny again tomorrow, wonder if I should go to the beach again......."

For clarity, that ^^^^ was tongue firmly in cheek!
Great idea, Duds, look forward to reading something positive on here for a change! **

How far is the ground from where you live, Duds? Do you reckon you could post some match footage on here, to give us an idea of what a typical match day is like?

I should at this point I suppose explain the Spanish League pyramid (much more like a pyramid than England’s spire! The system has been changed this season, this was planned but accelerated after Covid disrupted past season with many smaller regional leagues to avoid travel! La liga (Santander) and segunda or smartbank (second for any non Spanish speakers…) are the only two national leagues. Then comes a new tier two regional divisions called RFEF (Real Federación Española de Fútbol or Royal Spanish Football Federation) premier (3rd tier) then come a the old four division 2B which now consists of five regional divisions called RFEF Segunda (which means second but in this instance is actually 4th division . The next or fifth tier is obviously called RFEF tercera (third!) which consists of a division for each Spanish region (there are 17) except for Andalusia who is so big she needs 2 divisions. So this tier of 18 divisions is where the mighty El Palo (translates as the stick) ply their trade.

I will add some photos and a report from today’s (yesterday’s now!) home game but right now it’s after one in the morning and I do have to get up for work at 6:30!

Looking forward to the photos, Duds!
If I wore one, I'd take my hat off to you for that explanation of the league system. I'm still scratching my head which, funnily enough, I'd also have to take my hat off for - if I wore one!
Great thread idea, mate, this really will make for great reading.
Did I mention that I don't wear a hat?

I thought I’d start a self indulgent little thread with ‘match reports’ and general match day experiences to accompany the new season. We could compare notes. I'm not planning on visiting EP anytime soon on account of not wanting to risk covid by sitting in larger crowds, despite being double vaccinated (like my son, who still contracted covid) so spent Saturday afternoon watching Wigtown & Bladnoch FC play St Cuthberts Athletic in a Scottish Cup game. Played on a pitch with a significant slope and sharply resembling a ploughed field the home side found themselves 2 down by half time despite kicking down hill, completely lost their heads in the early minutes of the second half, culminating in the dismissal of their centre mid for an agricultural challenge on the visitors centre-forward and ended up on the wrong end of a 0-8 thrashing. Crowd, approximately 100 proper die-hards.

At this point I should apologise for my delay in match reporting. Nowhere near as efficient as Maccy! My main reason for the delay is an altogether different type of match… the world of online dating has lured me in and it’s a dangerous murky world! But that’s an entirely different story for another time and thread…

So two weeks back we hosted the night CD (Club Deportivo or sports club) Torremolinos. The match day started inauspiciously with me managing, for the first time in 2 years, to leave the flat without my keys…
Sitting outside my door, because I realised a full 0.15 seconds after the door had closed, with my bike. I had a decision to make. Wait for an hour for my landlady to arrive and potentially miss the first home game of the season. Or go anyway and arrange to find her house elsewhere in the city after the game!

Obviously I left the bike outside my door (6th floor so pretty safe!) and ran to get a cab. Otherwise I’d never make it to the ground in time for prematch drinks. One of my colleagues lives across the road so it is now a tradition to have a drink either pre or post match. She very kindly had a beer waiting for me on the table when I made it! Ah yes the game I hear you cry! Well I went to present my shiny new abono (season ticket) at the gate he took it off me and punched a little hole through the number one! Quick café con leche order at the bar with pitch views (yes alcohol can be purchased and consumed in sight of the pitch!) and on to the match.
The bottom three rows of seating were left empty because the sun was so hot no one could sit there. A quiet first period saw no clear cut chances but there was a heat break and an ever growing pile of sunflower seeds..
