It’s the playoffs for us as Marbella and Jaén won their games before we played. Torreperogil had lost their previous five and therefore beat us 3-1! Still an amazing effort so far.
Time for the playoff focus, either Marbella or Jaén will be reeling from failing to go up automatically especially as they play each other last game.

Play offs sounds good to me. Hope County can do the same.

Before Easter we had a home game whilst I was in Madrid, we scored just after half time but a mix up between defence and keeper allowed Arenas Armilla to walk the ball into an empty net. This draw making no difference to our final standing in the table but these little things may count when we get to the playoffs.

The game was most notable for the debut of the El Palo Inglés flag. Sporting the logos of each of our clubs across the bottom and the El Palo badge in the top left corner.

Last week we enjoyed a day out at Málaga B, with the whole El Palo Inglés crew catching the number 11, at different stops, to our first joint away game!
An even first half saw us creating a few opportunities without looking like scoring. On one of their few forays forward, our defender Christian had a rush of blood to the head and needlessly pushed their striker in the box. Despite getting a hand to it the keeper was unable to push it out. The second half continued in the same vein although as we made changes and tried to become more attacking still to level the match obviously we left some gaps at the back. Fortunately they did not take any of their half chances and in the 89th minute we got our just desserts with a driven shot after a corner on the left. 1-1 and a positive performance and result against a side still in the playoff hunt. Elsewhere Marbella and Jaén continued their charge for the end of season cup final, both winning well. There is currently one point between them with Marbella hosting Jaén in a true winner takes all game. Both teams have incredible home record with one drawn game being the only points dropped all season.
We take on Almeria B tomorrow, who are also in the hunt for the playoffs so should provide a good challenge to keep us on our toes for the playoffs.

The last game of the regular season saw us hosting Almería B, another group of young hopefuls - although their first team is in La Liga. As always you wonder who is going to drive a 300 mile round trip to support a B team… their parents and not many more! I can say this with confidence as just in front of us were the mother and father of one of their midfielders! As we settled into our places anticipating a seventy minute wait for a goal, El Palo immediately went on the front foot and produced a couple of decent chances in the first ten minutes. All Almería managed were long balls for their striker to chase. On sixteen minutes, Desty closed down the keeper well and he fluffed his line. As Desty took the ball around him the keeper took him out. ¡PENALTI! The keeper was only shown a yellow, last man surely a red ref! The resulting spot kick was blasted home by Acosta. The rest of the half passed in a welter of good attacking football, from both teams, although their defence looked much more shaky than ours. They needed a win to have a chance of the playoffs but never looked like they had the fight to actually go for it! Half time and we were still one goal to the good, and it was fair reward for our endeavour. Our top scorers this season all have seven goals, with twelve of the fourteen other clubs having a higher goal scorer, this is one area we need to address promptly. The second half continued much as the first with good chances at both ends. Our keeper made two very good stops as well as controlling his area in a very un-Spanish manner, collecting high balls in all parts. We continued to look dangerous and the wasteful Acosta spurned our two best opportunities. Minds and phones turned towards the title decider in Marbella and the playoff fixtures. In the winner takes all title decider it was still nil-nil going into the last ten minutes. Home side Marbella then scored to seal the title and condemn Jaén to the playoffs. Our playoff opponents Torre del Mar had an extended training session as they ran out eight nil winners over Huracán Melilla (who conceded 118 goals in 30 games!) Málaga B will face Jaén in the first round of the playoffs after they scored a 97th minute winner in their final game.
