There were a series of half chances in the second half with both teams evenly matched, eventually Torremolinos converted one of these with 12 minutes to go, after this both keepers had to make their first saves of the game. Sadly Palo couldn’t convert their opportunities and went down by the solitary goal.

Last weekend saw El Palo travelling to the mighty Huétor Tájar (or as I like to think of them Hector’s Tractor) in Granada. Sadly two goals in the first 18 minutes killed off any real hope for goal shy El Palo and despite winning the bookings competition 5-1 we failed to score in reply. Three games in won 0 drawn 1 lost 2. 1 goal scored 4 conceded…

Excellent reading, Duds, please keep this up!
I'm sure El Palo's fortunes will improve, mate, and it'll be all the sweeter when that first victory comes along!

But can they do it at Benidorm on a wet Tuesday winter's night?! Great stuff, Duds - and a really entertaining read.

And so the saga continues, yesterday’s game was against CD Alhauríno from Alhaurin de la Grande who are not to be confused with their near neighbours Alhaurin Torre CF from Alhaurin de la Torre. Alhaurino founded in 1908 are in fact the oldest team in Málaga. At this point I should clear up a confusing point for non Spanish folk. If someone Spanish tells you they are from Málaga or Granada for example they do not mean the city, they mean the entire province. So two people from ‘Málaga’ could live over 100km away from each other!

On to the match eventually… as a result of my other ‘matches’ I now have a handily placed lady friend who lives within 200m of the ground! Therefore I was able to spend an afternoon on the beach, swimming in the sea before the match.

When the game started, I may have been distracted into being a few minutes late, the kindly gate man punched another hole in my season ticket. I stopped at the bar, within sight of the pitch remember, and watched the action while she brewed me a fresh café con leche from the proper coffee machine for 1.80€. Add in a snickers bar and football was back on!
Not sure what happened in the first 10 minutes but there were definitely no goals! We were the better side, quicker to every ball creating dangerous opportunities without really testing the keeper on a quick breakaway they unleashed a 25 yard rocket that produced a flying save from the El Palo keeper. In sharp contrast to last home game’s scorching sun heat today the bottom three seating rows were empty because of rain! Don’t worry it had gone before the end of the game and blue skies were back. Half time 0-0 and I’m wondering if I will see a goal this season!

Second half we started stronger again and after 12 minutes darioooooo Higaldin scored a great goal from just inside the box, as the midfield advanced he moved towards them drawing the defender with him. A quick spin and run put him goal side of the defender feeding off a delightful through ball and he deftly placed it past the keeper. Definitely one from the training ground! They came back into the game for the next 10 minutes and found their reward with a powerful header from a free kick out on the left wing. In spooky coincidence with county El Palo’s winner came in the 87th minute of a rainy game! Pepe Capitán who is a real old fashioned forward slammed the ball home after a goal mouth scramble. Much joy and happiness ensued. I have a colleague who lives opposite the ground so was able to fully debrief over a beer. Vamo Palo!!!!

Last week, the season started away to the mighty Atlético Porcuna, or as I like to think of them ‘The athletic porcupines’ after taking the lead just after half time with Cala penalty El Palo were unable to hold on to the lead for long and conceded just 5 minutes later. Unbeaten on the road though! Now on the road needs a little explanation just the 195km to Porcuna… but still in Andalusia so it counts. Their team bus will clock up some serious mileage this season! As long as la cerveza is good.

At this point I should apologise for my delay in match reporting. Nowhere near as efficient as Maccy! My main reason for the delay is an altogether different type of match… the world of online dating has lured me in and it’s a dangerous murky world! But that’s an entirely different story for another time and thread… I'd expected real time tweets but never mind ;
