So tomorrow we take on the mighty Marbella away from home, I would go but it’s 40 miles away, I don’t have a car and I’m going to a flamenco show instead! Just as a point of interest for you all anyone from Marbella would say they were from Málaga. In fact anyone who is from anywhere in the nearly 3000 square miles of Málaga province would say they were from Málaga! They may live 100 miles apart but they’re still malagueños. The same is true for all Spanish provinces. To distinguish accurately I say that I live in Málaga capital.
Anyway let’s hope we give the Botox army a good thrashing !

So the boys scored in the 44th minute to take the lead, conceded in the 85th but up popped Dariooooooooo one minute later to score a late winner! First win on the road, second win in succession. And they look pretty pleased about it…especially Pepe Capitan (no he’s not the captain!) the number 9

So tomorrow is a National Holiday, therefore no school woohoo - I need an extra days recovery after Saturday! Unlike the Brits the Spanish are very proud of invading half the world and inflicting their culture, beliefs and illnesses on the local populace. October the 12th marks the day Christopher Columbus ‘discovered’ America in 1492. The famous Spanish explorer, who was of course Italian and had begged every kingdom in Europe to fund his trip to find India in the other direction, struck lucky in 1492 because the catholic monarchs Isabelle and Ferdinand finally defeated the Moors of Granada and so had money to spare on making their global mark. He set sail from the glorious Andalusia (Sevilla) in the Santa Maria, Niña and Pinta heading for India, got very lost and ended up in the Bahamas but hey that’s as good as discovering America isn’t it?

Nor do they seem bothered about usurping the claims of Leif Erikson, also hopelessly lost having been blown off course whilst making the journey between Iceland and Greenland and who was probably the first European to land in North America, and who almost certainly explored south of his first landing, nearly 500 years before Columbus lol

So in a similar vein tomorrow’s game is an international meeting across the Alborán Sea against the mighty Intergym Melilla. If a Spaniard every gives you grief about Gibraltar (which they ceded to us after getting a drubbing on the battlefield/ocean) ask them about Melilla (Meleeya) and Ceuto (thayootoe) two Moroccan enclaves that the Spanish still claim as their own! Similar to the way we controlled Calais for around 250 years.
Anyway that’s enough history for one match! Melilla are second bottom with one point from their five matches scoring 3 and conceding 14. A win tomorrow could propel the Paleños into the playoffs, I have recruited at least one and possibly two colleagues to accompany me tomorrow, the lure of a bar in sight of the pitch is a strong one. Sadly both of them are hammers fans! Ceefer I will endeavour to add some live commentary for you, the quality will depend on how long I spend at the bar! Kick off is 11:30 here so 10:30 for you guys! Hasta mañana

Match day has begun well, late start because it’s a day off, breakfast of avocado and tomato on toast - not hipster here as everything is grown within 25/30 miles so accessible to all at a good price! Black coffee with amoretti biscuits fresh from Italy thanks to some friends who went home last week! Currently rolling along the back of the beach on the bus watching the sun bathers and swimmers…
Only downside to the day is that my other El Palo match is currently visiting family in Madrid! I can make up for that by drinking pre, during and post match…

52 minutes in, fans shouting at the ref about time wasting, their striker goes down with ‘cramp’. Come on boys
