Once it became clear we would slow play I just watched Foden's movement rather than the game. He is something else. Agreed, H, he's an exceptional talent. Whether he's the new Gazza or not is another matter, but he's the brightest talent we've had in that position for a long time. I think we need quicker option up top, as the game is far too quick for Kane. Scotland are having a f***ing field day here - this is embarrassing. AND HE TAKES FODEN OFF? what the f***

Kane has been dire.
Southgate is a negative manager and we are so pedestrian. No chance of us going anywhere in this competition as things stand.
I know Foden has played in the front three for City with KDB as a false 9 etc, but I’d have him in midfield for England.
We have plenty of options in the front 3 but are a bit light in midfield. Kane should not be an automatic starter and neither should Sterling.

Rice was the main problem in midfield, he was taking up a place in the lineup that could have put to far better use, but as you said, Southgate is a negative manager. He set that side up tonight to not lose, and we almost got beat. We'll win nothing at this tournament. Even if the Scots go out with this point, they will be celebrating it for years to come, we're just not good enough There was no pride, no passion, no fight, no hunger - what an embarrassment.

Fully agree mate.
Phillips was excellent against Croatia. It’s a shame Henderson is injured. I’d have Phillips and Henderson with Foden in the centre of the park. Rice isn’t pulling his weight.
Then pick any three you like from Rashford, Sterling, Grealish, Sancho, Kane, Calvert-Lewis etc up top.

We weren't playing very well and still somehow seemed to get worse after the subs! Did we REALLY need to keep that midfield 3 on? Grealish couldn't have come on central feeding a front 3? As you guys said, pretty negative stuff that looked like it was about not losing, but hey lots of tippy tappy nothingness! Reminds me of something.

He could have tried 3 at the back after half-time, to try to nullify the threat of Robertson getting forward.
Kane should never have come out for the second half, he played like he was carrying a bag of sand on his back.
Taking Foden off was an utter joke, and Grealish's main contribution was to win free-kicks on the touchline and in the centre circle.
Chilwell should start the next game for me, as I don't think Shaw offered much.
I've got so much anger and frustration right now, it was an embarrassing display.

I was talking to my brother earlier and I mentioned to him that Southgate played in that Euro 96 match and will have remembered Tosh McKinlay tearing us a new one in the first half.
Second half, when Jimmy Hill was calling for Gazza to get ten minutes then substitute him, Venables took Stuart Pearce off, went three at the back and brought on Jamie Redknapp in midfield.
This not only gave us the extra man in the middle, it also forced their full backs onto the back foot and allowed Gary Neville to use the overlap to get behind them.
I know I mentioned three at the back on here last night, but it only dawned on me today that Southgate saw that Euro 96 unfold himself at first hand, so why didn't he remember that and apply the same tactics to force Robertson back last night?
Forward-thinking coach, my arse.

Spain were exciting earlier, during the short periods they stopped playing like Spain.

I did a language exchange with a Spanish guy tonight and he was lamenting the lack of threat and prospects for the Spanish team

A nice gesture. When my best friend from school (a City supporter from being a boy in the 80s) passed away in his sleep (5 months into Mancini's tenure at City), my friend's parents received a letter from him.
