I'm not Henderson's biggest fan as a player but he fits the motivator profile. However, he plays the game with a snarl on his face and that's exactly the kind of thing that irritates referees. Kane, on the other hand, is usually on the receiving end of foul tackles and tends to just get up and get on with it, making the referee's job that much easier.

The biggest 'wtf' for me in recent England team history - aside from David Beckham getting the armband - is the fact that Steven Gerrard wasn't made captain as soon as he established himself at Anfield and didn't have the national team built around him - leaving w**k Lumplard to eek out his goal-hanging career in the West End and Beckham to concentrate on how good his hair looked on the big screens. History will show Gerrard's England career to be a hit and miss one, but the blame for that should be laid squarely at the doors of the managers he played under. We could make a WC-winning team from the players we've failed down the years to utilise properly - if at all. I never thought I'd see the day when there'd be an England tournament campaign I really couldn't care less about, but here we are.

I'll never turn my back on England. Might have one eye watching how the Aussies are getting on though.

To be fair, Downy, there's a world of difference between turning my back on my country and not giving a sh*t how 23 obscenely paid and overrated individuals perform, while wearing a kit manufactured for peanuts in an Asian sweatshop bearing the England badge.

I've never let the players' wages bother me.
Or where the kit is manufactured.
And players only become overrated by believing their own hype in the British media. The same media that delight in their downfall.

I couldn't really care less how England do this summer. I fully expect England to be abysmal, as always, so I won't lose any sleep over it. Give me international cricket or rugby any day.

Yep, I'll be paying more attention to the cricket too. Already managed a couple of sessions at OT this summer. I don't know whether it's an age thing but sitting in the sun watching the game is a genuinely relaxing way to spend a few hours.

My disinterest in the farings of the national team coincided I think with our slide into non league obscurity. At least as a league club I paid attention to the higher divisions. Just on the off chance we won a couple of cup ties and got a big team, that is so far away from where we are that it feels like an altogether different game. I will watch but have seriously low expectations.

can't help it...it's the world cup. no doubt i'll be tense and frustrated within the opening ten minutes of england kicking off, but i still can't help it. i feel like i'm less arsed about the world cup in general at the moment, but then it's still a month away.

I’m more pre-emptively annoyed at the media coverage when we go out, we’ll get knocked out in Round 2 and we’ll hear about it until the start of the club season and we’ll get the usual inquests, these players have never come out and claimed to be World Beaters, the media are the ones building up how good they are and then the first to sharpen the knives when they don’t live up to it.
Not to mention the fact that despite months of coverage for our inevitable exit will be slightly more annoying to me due to the fact that Team GB Ice Hockey barely got a sentence in the mainstream media despite ACTUALLY doing the nation proud, but that’s a rant for another time.

Kane* it is.
*ever notice that it's always 'Harry Kane', and not just Kane? He's the anti-Brazilian - always his full name.

Looking at the draw, we should qualify from the group before playing Belgium, Panama are on of the worst teams in the tournament and qualified with a negative goal difference. Tunisia are a slightly better side but their two top scorers are out injured. In the second round we will play the top two of probably Senegal or Poland (an equally weak group!). They are both beatable which gets us to the 1/4 final where we would meet someone good and lose!
Enjoy the summer!
