Whilst we've had everyone's favourite video games on the old forum, what were you favourite video games as a young'un? Say up until your early 20s?
There were some excellent ones when I was a kid in the 90s!
Sonic 1, 2 & 3 on the megadrive were all excellent, Super Mario World, TMNT; Turtles in Time, Starfox, Zelda 3 were all excellent on the SNES.
The Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon games on the PS1 were all excellent but for me the ultimate console of my time was the Nintendo 64, some truly excellent games on there.
Wave Race 64, Zelda; Majora's Mask, James Bond; The World is Not Enough, FIFA World Cup '98, NHL 99, Mario Kart 64, Super Smash Bros., Mischief Makers, Perfect Dark.
However the 3 stand-out games have to be, Super Mario 64, James Bond; Goldeneye and Zelda; Ocarina of Time.
I know Gazza is with me on a few of them!
What say you lot?

Never a fan of the Megadrive versions of Sonic, Gazza?
I'd put Sonic 2 up there with one of the best side-scrollers in history personally!
Believe it or not, I actually still own a fully working Commodore64 and frequently play Ghostbusters, my Dad has loads of classic consoles, a ZX Spectrum, a C64, an Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, a Jaguar (remember them?!) if you want to borrow one matey feel free, he doesn't have original games, they're all copies he's done but they all work perfectly!

Cheers for the offer, matey, but I have a rake of emulators and ROMs. Sonic on the Mega Drive was just too fast, you had all that fancy parallax scrolling and scenery, but it mostly flew by on the screen with little time to take it in. The Master System version was just more playable, and it was the first one, so that probably makes it seem the best one for me. In much the same way as Connery is still the best Bond, which he is in my opinion, but Daniel Craig is by far the superior actor.
The C64 version of Ghostbusters is the stuff of legends, all other ports were pale imitations as far as I'm concerned, plus it did that music so much better than the rest at the time too!

Well the offer stands if you fancy a go on the real thing matey!
I know what you mean about it's a bit fast but I had the same problem with the Mastersystem version, it was too slow for me, guess that's the impatience of my generation haha!
I think we can all agree the Sonic franchise got ruined with the advent of the 3D era, whilst Sonic Adventure wasn't THAT bad, the games it paved the way for really were!

Agreed, and the saddest thing is that there is still a market for the traditional platform game.

Well did you ever bother with Sonic Generations mate? It's like a throwback to the old Sonic games, each level features an old re-imagining of classic stages, you play as 'classic Sonic' for Act 1 and 'new Sonic' for Act 2, Act 1 is always a 3D version of the level, true to the games original platform and the 2nd Act is always classic levels but re-imagined as 3D levels in the style of Sonic Adventure but it really works, they've kept the fun, quick vibe to it without making it too serious like some Sonic games have done since the Dreamcast!
It's on PC I think so I'd consider downloading it mate (Legally, of course!).
Did you ever play any of the 'new' Zelda series, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword?

Didn't like the 'Paper' look of Wind Waker so didn't bother with it, and I haven't seen the Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess yet.
I did download (legally) 'Generations' when it came out, but it was around the time of a number of other decent games that I wanted to play more, and with HD space at a premium (I only have a 160GB internal HD), I uninstalled it before having the chance to give it a real go. I will have a bash at some point, as some of the new games are now only for 64bit/windows 7 or 8 systems, so I will have to start backtracking through some of the games from the last three or four years for my gaming kicks until I can afford to upgrade this crate or invest in a new one.

I was put off by the Wind Wakers cell shaded graphics at first but it really is a great game mate if you can get past the graphics and once you get a bit further into it the graphics seem to really work at some parts of the game, Twilight Princess was okay but Skyward Sword is something else mate, second only to OoT!

here are a few links you kiddies might want to look at including a link to almost all the spectrum games - and you can play them ! - the site uses an emulator to recreate the authentic operation of a 48k spectrum and you can even write your own program using BASIC. also a typical page ( one of many listed on the site) of the actual BASIC language used. www.worldofspectrum.org/archive.html to find BASIC code look under type in's - choose a game from the a-z and look for FULL PAGE. YOU CAN IF YOU WANT TYPE IN THE GAMES IT HAS LISTED IN THEIR ORGINAL BASIC LANGUAGE FORM - TAKE FOREVER THOUGH LOL www.zxspectrum.net/ Horace goes ski ing is there ! this last site seems to be in Spanish but fairly simple to get about click a game and play it ! dont use the emulators on world of spectrum d/l the tzx file of the game you want to play and d/l your own emulator. run emulator and load game just like you used to do ! SOME EMULATORS WILL LET YOU HEAR THE TAPE LOADING SOUND ! GAMES WILL LOAD AT THEIR ORIGINAL LOADING SPEED ! ENJOY ! My personl favs were ( and i still have working editions of these on tape) GHOSTBUSTERS, ON THE BENCH, FOOTBALL DIRECTOR, FOOTBALL MANAGER 2, KNIGHT RIDER, STREETHAWK, DALY THOMPSON SUPERTEST PART 1 AND 2 GREEN BERET, PING PONG, BLOCKBUSTERS GOLD RUN, COLIN THE CLEANER, BLIZZARD PASS, FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD ( USED WINDOWS TO MOVE ABOUT THE GAME - FIRST OF ITS KIND EVER)...PLUS OTHERS I CANT REMEMBER WITHOUT GO LOOKING LOL ALSO REMEMBER ANT ATTACK, MIAMI VICE, RAMBO, SPACE RAIDERS, ATIC ATAC, HORACE GOES SKI ING, IAN BOTHAMS TEST CRICKET.

ONE THING....options to save games don't actually save the game even though they appear to do so.......haven't figured that out yet.
