I remember that first FIFA game, mate. 'FIFA International Soccer' appeared on the Mega Drive first, then Super Nes a year or so later wasn't it? Then came ISS on the Super Nes to give FIFA a good old fashioned kick into row 'Z'!

i didn't get ISS until my N64 days. enjoyed a bit of 'sensible soccer' on the mega cd(!) and SWOS on pc. ISS and then pro evo blew all the previous ones away though. it's why i'm still a bit loyal to the ailing pro evo brand (not that i've bought one since pro evo 11). i know FIFA's a bit different now, but the 32 and 64 bit versions always felt woolly in control to me.

FIFA 14 is utter crap, mate. Not the game itself as such, but the lazy programming. The 'difficulty' levels are just varying degrees of handicapping of your own abilities, coupled with a speeding up of the opposition players. It's pants.
PES was, for so long, the daddy of Football games. Somewhere along the way though, Konami forgot everything they did to make them good up to that point, and started to churn out games with the same lack of fluidity that the earlier FIFA games had. I've not played a PES game since the 2009 version, I might give this latest one a try if FIFA keeps p*****g me off.
Can you still download the third-party patches with real team names and badges, Ars? That said, I only play as Granada in La Liga on FIFA nowadays, I've sort of adopted them as my 'other' team. So it's not that important to have all the Premier League names and badges, so they can stay as Man Scum 'A' and Man Scum 'B' for all I care!

oh how we loved the days of middlebrook, merseyside blue, etc... i've never gone online with my 360, slightly mentally........so pathetically, i'd spend the first ten days of any pro evo carefully designing strips including sponsors and editing the names... this is from an old xbox version: which is admittedly s***.

i had spectrum 'chuckie egg' as well, even though it didn't exploit the full 48k of memory of my machine... we've already done 'nhl' on here - my favourite flavours were '93 and '95 although i also had the original and '94 too. could you do any better than including (fudge's mate) ray bourque, steve yzerman, jeremy roenick and sergei fedorov in your dream team? remember the first time you saw the original FIFA? how revolutionary it was to have that isometric '3D'. and then 'actua soccer' for proper 3D...even though it was uncontrollable... Kirk Muller from the Montreal Canadiens and Trevor Linden and Pavel Bure of the Canucks were both quality!

things like the adidas equipment logos took ages......and were still s***! I think that looks smart, I'd have been chuffed with that if I'd done it myself, mate.

one of those things though that you feel like you're going blind after doing 20 PL home, away and 'keeper kits! i always had the wrong sponsors on them as well cos i could never remember who sunderland had after reg vardy for instance...
although gameplay is king, it's those extra personalised bits of 'realism' that add so much when you're slogging your way through your fifth 'master league' season!

Totally agree, it's those little authenticities that give your achievements that extra bit of satisfaction, and encourage you to go back for another go.

Have any of you played fifa14 on the xbox one or ps4? Some of the crowd graphics are fantastic. I'm still rubbish at it though!

see, this is where the idiotic purchaser strategy actually works for me duds. i've got at least ten never played 360 games, plus another ten i've given an hour to...i'm sure there's plenty of quality in 'red dead...', 'mass effect 3', 'limbo', 'halo reach', the last couple of 'GTA' games etc...so i will probably hang on for another year or more before i need to upgrade. hopefully then it will be clear which has the better software line up, although i have got a bit of xb loyalty due to having the last couple of consoles and loving the controller.
which have you got, and how impressed are you?
