Just a thought from Labour’s start in government. Do we need to change the name of this thread as they are being a bit of a shower at the moment. Not just yet, as they've got some way to go to becoming the shower that the previous lot were. They've only been in power a matter of months, so may I suggest a 'Labour watch' or something similar? That's not me being an apologist, by the way, far from it. I just think the bar on 'shower' has been set incredibly low by the last government, and these are nowhere near that - yet. Just my two cents, Duds.

I agree Gazz, my comment was slightly tongue in cheek. As you say the conservatives kept setting an ever lower barrier of shamble led governance. The leadership election should provide them with more opportunities to show what a true shower they have become.
Labour deserve a chance to fix this, but things like the pensioners money heist are bad optics.
As you say a Labour watch thread could be interesting.

Many pensioners (like me) don't need the winter fuel allowance. The trouble is that you need a qualifying condition that already exists rather than spending money on building another system and the pension credit bar is quite low. I think that the qualifier should be whether or not you pay income tax. This bar is a couple of thousand higher and the information is already there in the tax code.

Thanks Archie, I have always felt that there were obviously some pensioners who didn’t need such allowances, but the optics of this are so bad. They are presenting the right wing press with easy opportunities to say Labour are coming after you.

So the Tories are down to Badenoch and Jenrick !!!
That's feels a bit like asking if you want to be smashed in the face or kicked up the arse.
Jenrick's daughter's middle name is ................... Thatcher. Unbelievable.

All governments get the bad news out of the way early in the term to allow for giveaways (or a Falklands war) closer to the next election.
With the Tory choices, reminiscent of going for Hague and Duncan-Smith, the only way that Labour lose the next election, short of WW3, is to go too far to the left. Never has worked and never will. Too many still think that the ruling class, God bless Boris, will take all the nasty decisions and keep them poor but happy.

You're right, mate, sadly, but I'm not against a shift to just left of centre, as that's still some considerable distance from the last lot.
