"Premier League rivals want to see us punished" - Guardiola www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c79w9p114d5oNo, Pep, genuine football fans and believers in fair play & integrity want to see you punished. I hope they get hit hard, but I'm not holding my breath.

Toto Schillaci RIP Italy's World Cup icon Schillaci dies aged 59 - www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cqlvrp4nylwoIt was a World Cup that polarised opinion, but it gave us some great memories, Schillaci's exploits being among them, and it also gave us Gazza! Sad news.

I loved Italia 90, apart from the penalties…
Toto was a burst of energy throughout the tournament. Enough to noticed despite England’s run to semi final. DEP

Very sad news. A great character, who had the tournament of his life in 1990.
RIP, Toto.

Essentially a sinkhole - which is going to take a whole lot of time and money to fix. Real blow for the Real Dons.

Jesus Christ, that's horrendous, I really hope they can get it sorted.
When I see this and then consider the wages Premier League footballers are on, where the equivalent of just one week's pay for some of them would sort this out, it just makes me feel sick.
Best of luck to the real Dons.

Not sure whether it's my own seemingly headlong gallop towards old age or not but I can't help feel a twinge of sadness at the passing of Johan Neeskens. As a football mad boy of 8 years even I had begun to hear of the mysterious Dutch creation known as total football so imagine the thrill when, during a family holiday, I was allowed to stop up late to watch the 1970-71 European Cup Final between Ajax and Panathinaikos.
It was to be the first of 3 successive wins in the competition for Ajax whose team included the two Johans, Cruyff and Neeskens, as well as Wim Suurbier, Piet Keizer and Arie Haan, domestic club success that was eventually emulated with a mixture of breathtaking ball skills, speed, on and off the ball, as well as a willingness to "mix it" with the hardest (watch the highlights of the '74 semi final v Brazil on youtube for ample evidence of that) by the Dutch national side in which Neeskens played such a prominent part who surely remain the best side never to have won a World Cup.

Only just picked up this news. Very sad to hear about the passing of a truly great player from my childhood, too.
RIP.

Excellent post, Yorks.
I remember watching the delayed 1978 World Cup final he was involved in, where pretty much everyone was willing the Dutch to win, not least for the pre-match bullshit from the Argies.
Rob Rensenbrink's is still one of the biggest 'what if' moments in football, but alas it wasn't to be.
Johan Neeskens was a great player in what was a truly great team.
RIP
