I was going to post during the game that it should never have been a penalty! It was refreshing to see Foden being able to play like he does for his club rather than being left out on the wing. Last minute winner or not Watkins is still Villa scum. Best England performance of the competition but they will need more against Spain. You had me nodding and shaking my head reading that one, Duds, almost simultaneously!

And............................
For Koeman to be fuming about referee decisions is a bit rich after his little bit of gamesmanship in 1993.
It's called PAYBACK TIME Ronald.

Correct Gazza.
Koeman then went on to score the winning goal from a free kick.

Southgate has to go, Kane has to retire and English football really does need to start learning from the massive amount of overseas international footballers that are dominating the premier League. Southgate has taken us as far as he can, he should not be given another contract. Kane should never have started the tournament, let alone tonight's game. He knew he wasn't fully fit, and so did Southgate, but he's still played him throughout. He should never have come out for the second half, yet Southgate's pissed almost 15 second-half minutes up the wall trying to find the balls to sub him. I'm not gutted, I'm f***ing angry for being drawn in and let down again, by the same f***ing lack of ability required to make the most of the opportunities we've blown. The money those players are on and they still can't take the chance when it's in front of them. Bellingham was blowing out of his arse long before they scored the winner, and he should have been hooked, but yet again Southgate failed to make the big calls when he's needed to. A world cup semifinal and two Euro finals - thanks for all your efforts, Gareth, but it's time to let someone else have a go. There's a reason that Premier League clubs from the top to the bottom of the league favour foreign players, and tonight highlights it, perfectly. Oh, and nice touch from the sniper in the stands trying to take out Nacho & Cucurella for us, but it was to no avail. Football can f*** right off.

Have to agree with all you said there Gazz. I would add that our defence was weak all tournament. Thank god Maguire was injured or Southgate would have started him

I'm off work today, and a Liverpool-supporting work colleague sends me a Spanish flag this morning, with "Spanish Scouse" on it.
I kid you not, this is what I have to deal with. No wonder the rest of the country can't stand Liverpool fans, especially when they come up with this kind of thing.
I've not dignified it with a response, I'll just leave him with his two blue ticks and that massive chip on his shoulder, then he can chuckle to himself all day in work.
Idiot.

Having just seen a Mike Bassett reference on the other board, I thought I'd offer one of my own:
That Kane has all the pace of an Austin Allegro, and I'm not talking Vanden Plas!

What also needs mentioning is the contrast between the two managers last night.
While Southgate took AT LEAST 15 second-half minutes to make the brave call needed (Hooking Kane), de la Fuente didn't. He replaced Rodri at half-time and his side took the lead within two minutes.
Those two decisions (or lack of in Southgate's case), highlighted the difference between winners and losers.
I'm sick and tired of England managers' tendency to stick with the established names. Once or twice they will make a statement call, but it's rare and hardly ever before or during big tournaments when it really matters.
Okay, sometimes it doesn't go down well (Lineker being replaced by Alan Smith at Euro '92), but it was obvious before that night that Graham Taylor wasn't a very good England manager.
I personally think he f***ed up dropping Rashford, but obviously we'll never know for sure. All I do know is that Kane was clearly not fit and should never have started this tournament. It was his inclusion that made us look pedestrian, toothless and constantly looking to grind out results, rather than go at teams.
Kane should do the decent thing now and retire from international football.
I don't blame Southgate for his shortcomings, we all have limits and it's obvious that he doesn't have that extra bit needed to get over that final hurdle in tournaments, but I will blame the FA if they allow him to continue in the job after this.
He should be thanked for what he's done and replaced, but if he's the manager taking us to the next World Cup, I will not be watching.

Southgate has his limitations but he has achieved much in the last 8 years and I'm not sure that any of the touted club managers would do a better job. After the treatment he's had from some supporters and most of the media, I wouldn't blame him if he walked away.
If he does, I'd be inclined to look at candidates who have experience of working with the FA. That means someone like Lee Carsley or Steve Cooper who have both had success with the youth teams and already have a connection with some of the 'star' players.

The Guardian's sports writer whose name escapes me for now described Kane as having all the mobility of a rain-soaked bale of hay.

Eddie Howe for me.
He has combined a set of journeymen footballers and turned them into a decent side at Bournemouth and Newcastle (not forgetting Burnley).
It doesn't always come off but his sides play with a winning mentality and he would have the "pick off the crop" to tinker with.
Don't think we should go foreign and a certain Mr Klopp doesn't need that pressure anymore.

Howe would be my pick too. His sides generally play a more adventurous style of football.

HOWEver ( ) , it could cost the FA some considerable money to prise him away from his Newcastle contract, plus there's the question of whether or not he wants the job in the first place, at least at this stage in his career. He may still want to fulfil his ambitions as a club manager, so who knows.

Howe would be my pick too. His sides generally play a more adventurous style of football. Howe also talks well about the game, Duds and he's a very good communicator. He'd be my choice too. As for Klopp, he quit Liverpool to get some much-needed rest, so as much as I like the guy and would love to see him get the job, we would not be getting the 'heavy metal' Klopp we all know and admire if the FA managed to convince him to take it. Right guy, wrong time.
