I can only think that the year's run of wins has taken its toll. That's two TV tournaments on the trot he's lost in now, is his age starting to become a factor? That's not making excuses for Taylor, his drop in form at this tournament has been severe, and by his phenomenal standards that was not just sub-par, it was sh*te.

There will be people asking whether at the age of approaching 54, that it's time for him to retire. In this tournament, the biggest of them all, he's been well below his best. It's difficult for anyone in sport to keep such a high quality going. When he does retire, the sport of darts will be a much poorer place without him. At least his knighthood next month will go a long way to offset this shock defeat and the oncoming world of the pipe and slippers. I don't want to see him carry on playing below his best and steadily dropping down the rankings (aka "Only Fools and Horses"), I want to see him finish at the top, where he's been for a quarter of a century.

Agreed, I like Kev, he's a good player and nobody was more chuffed for him than me when he won his first TV major two years ago.
He's got a game on his hands though, Whitlock is a heavy hitter and is as deadly as they come when he hits form.

John Part is a great addition to the commentary team. Excellent, in fact

Also agree, as well as being a fabulous player on his day. I thought it was pretty sh*tty of Barry Hearn last year to not include him on the wall of champions at the World's, they've rectified that this year but they shouldn't have needed to. They had Barney and Dennis up there, yet they only won one PDC World title each, John Part has won two of them and deserved better respect.
He's also one of the game's best counters, and his covering shots throughout his career have been brilliant.

I'm sick of hearing the commentators gushing about Michael Smith. He beat an appalling Phil Taylor who was as bad as I've ever seen him play, but now he's a potential world champion.
Give it a rest, Mardle.
