Phil the Power Taylor is just about to launch his title defence. I may try and get tickets for this years. I keep promising myself I will!

John Part made hard work of his match, but Peter Wright just seems to be growing as a player this year, impressive display.

Shocking this, duds. I know Phil is traditionally a poor starter at the World Championships, but this has been bad at times.

To be fair to Szabo he was averaging in the 90s and hit three big finishes in the first set.
Will be a 3-1 victory to Taylor now I think

Good call, Duds. Hats off to Szabo, he had Phil worried there, very worried.

Sir Phil of Taylor was under severe pressure in that game. I think he will go on to win it outright now.

I hope you're right, Rog, but that was as bad as I've seen him play at times last night. Sorry to see Walshy drop out of the top 32 today, he did so well to come back from the dreaded Dartitis. I hope he can find some form soon.

Terry Jenkins 9 darter, get in, Jenks! What a good game this is with Per Laursen, who is also a very good player.

Danish number one Laursen goes through 3-2, deservedly so, a cracking match. Peter Wright has a game on his hands against the Dane in round two, he's a very good player.

Aussie number one, Kyle Anderson hits the second 9 dart finish of the day, unbelievable!

Absolutely stunning, as Ian White said: "two nine darters in the afternoon and Phil Taylor's not one of them".
Incredible session.

They need to sort this prelim round cobblers, as the winner (although a poorer standard player) does have a distinct advantage when he plays his next opponent an hour or so later. Can't be right.
