Team GB have made a good start to their World Championship campaign.
Game 1 saw Croatia go 1-0 up shorthanded against the run of play before an onslaught from the Lions saw us come close but not close enough as Croatia doubled their lead with 15 minutes left to play. Cue the dramatic comeback music! Britain pulled one back on the Powerplay with 7 minutes left to go before tying it up with 5 seconds to go! Team GB then sealed the game 11 seconds into Overtime to get their promotion charge started in dramatic fashion.
Game 2 was more comfortable for GB as they deservedly went 1-0 up with 5 minutes left to play in the first period against relegation threatened Estonia. The 2nd Period saw the underdog Estonian's grow into the game more and shock Britain when they equalised with 7 minutes to go in the 2nd period. The third was relentless British pressure before we finally got the all important go ahead goal 5 minutes from time and comfortably held on for a 2-1 win.
Today is an off day before 3 very tough games, recently relegated and tournament favourites, South Korea. Promotion hopefuls Lithuania and tournament hosts, the Netherlands all to come.

Great Britain beat hosts the Netherlands 3-2 to put themselves on the verge of a Gold Medal and promotion.
The points format for the World Championships is;
3 points for a win in regulation. 2 points for a win in overtime/shootout. 1 point for a loss in overtime/shootout. 0 points for a loss in regulation.
Team GB can seal promotion if...
-They beat Lithuania in any way. -They lose in overtime. -South Korea fail to win in regulation.

Great story out of the Canucks today as forward Daniel Sedin played in the All-Star game and netted himself around 125k USD and upwards of 400k if you include personal endorsements and has given all of it to the Canucks training staff who are all part time and on considerably less than the players.
Furthermore he also paid for the Physios son to go to University as the physio is out of full time work and can't afford it. Granted this isn't a huge amount for an NHL superstar but it's still a fantastic gesture and one I think a number of footballers could learn from!

That's an incredible gesture, mate, seriously brilliant!
You don't see much of that over here with our overpaid footballers, they should take note that the sport is not just about them.
Cheers for posting, Fudgie - great story, that!

Feels a little like intruding on private grief but it must be a long time since no Canadian team qualified for the NHL play-offs.

First time since 1970! Horrible news for the NHL as teams with around 10,000 fans like Florida and Dallas make the playoffs for less tv revenue and not sold out arenas, as opposed to all the Canadian teams who each have millions of fans around the world!
