I agree mate, however the difference is in ice hockey the decision isn't taken by the board.
They employ a President of Hockey Operations to oversee the hirings and firings, kind of like a CEO of sorts.
Trevor Linden has come in as President so I suppose it is understandable if he wants his owns guys in but I can't say I'm not really disappointed!

That's fair enough, but it's still a crazy decision for me. Is the guy who hired Torts the President who has just been fired?

Yeah there is 3 tiers to club management
President - Oversees everything on the playing and coaching side. General Manager - Is in charge of completing trades and handling contract negotiations. Head Coach - Picks the team, gives them instruction and can swap players between the Canucks and Utica.
Mike Gillis last season was both GM and President so it will have been his decision to bring Torts in.
I agree it's a crazy decision!

I think it's a good idea to dump the man who hired a manager that is seen to have failed by the owners (I'm not saying Torts failed here obviously), Brian Clough suggested years ago that it should be the case in football, and he was right.
It does appear that the writing has been on the wall for Tortorella then?

It seems to be all but confirmed now. Just waiting for the official club statement.
His fate has been up in the air, some think he'll stay and some thing he's just been kept on until a suitable time. Sadly it looks all but certain he'll go now.
A decision I understand but disapprove of!

I've got faith that King Trevor will have an ace up his sleeve you don't remain a world star in the game and not make a few contacts!
Best of luck, Torts!

Gazza, you may be interested to know the new Canucks management team are making real waves in the NHL at the minute, signed two of the most highly sought after free agents of the decade in Ryan Miller and Radim Vrbata, Miller being an elite goalie and Vrbata being the top point scorer at the Arizona Coyotes last season.
As well as making a few bold trades and depth signings. Things are looking very good and the Canucks could be in for an exciting few years, the results may not be instant but I definitely think that the good times are on their way back!
97 days until the new season starts, 80 odd days until pre-season!

Good news that we can all get on board with...
Great Britain Under 20s are playing in the World Championships Division 2A (4th tier, think Davis Cup format) and after 3 of 5 games are sat top of the pile going for Gold and the promotion that comes with it!
Wins so far over The Netherlands, Lithuania and Romania. They have South Korea tomorrow and finally Estonia who are the hosts!
