1 Sutton Utd 84/41 - Barnet GD +38 87 max points ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 Torquay Utd 79/41 - Alty GD +29 82
3 COUNTY 74/41 - Yeovil GD +36 77 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 Hartlepool Utd 73/40 - Weymouth GD +19 76
5 Notts Co 70/41 - Bromley. GD +22 73
6 Wrexham 67/41 - Dag & Red. GD +21 70
7 Chesterfield 66/41 - Halifax. GD +16 69 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8 Bromley 66/41 - Notts Co GD +9 69
9 Eastleigh 65/40 - Alty and Solihull GD+11 71
10 Halifax 65/41 - Chesterfield GD +10 68
Disappointing day for County. Is it better to play 3 games over 3 weekends in the play offs and keep the momentum or have a week off to recuperate and get over injuries.
It has to be said, we need Madden fit for the next few games.
Still very tight for the last 3 play off spots (down to Solihull in 11th who are on a late charge with a slight chance) Now edited as Sutton become Champions. Congratulations to them.
We now have 3rd place finish in our own hands.

So, Sutton could make sure of the title tomorrow. Hope they do, from our point of view, too - given what that would mean for Hartlepool!
Solihull's chances - as you say, Lennie - are pretty remote, and, to be honest, with their current run of wins, they are the sort of team to avoid in the play-offs at all costs. I would have similar fears about in-form outfits like Notts County (who made sure of their p/o place today) and Eastleigh - either of whom we could end up facing next month.

Yes, indeed. Congratulations Sutton; many thanks for beating Hartlepool and putting the attainment of third place back in County's hands. (This seems like giving SR a "Get Out of Jail" card!). We need to beat Yeovil to deserve it whatever happens at Hartlepool next week.
If we achieve third place and qualify for a home play-off semi-final tie, it gives more recovery time for injured players, especially Paddy Madden. I was initially sceptical about his transfer (the massive fee, his age, and length of contract) but he has quickly become a vital part of the team. His seven goals in fourteen games is a good return but his all round contribution, link-up play and reading of a game seems crucial to our success. Anyone heard news of his progress and potential return date?
As to next week, I wonder whether Hartlepool's manager Dave Challinor might be distracted by the vacant manager's job at Tranmere Rovers? He knows the club well as an ex-player and apparently, he's one of the favourites; my hunch is that JG could be in the running and it'll be interesting to see who gets the job.

Only Collar (imminent return) and Kitching (aiming for pre-season) were listed as injuries in the matchday programme. I think it was previously floated about as a few weeks out for Madden so hopefully he'll be back, at least, for any playoff games. And yes, congrats to Sutton. They had a very effective side and a system that uses their strengths. Although they had good individuals, they were clearly a team - and one which put to bed the idea that you need "two 20 goal strikers" to win the league. One forward is on 14 and one midfielder is on 11, yet they've (likely) outscored us this season. In fact, of the 3 top scorers above Reid, 2 are in sides in the bottom half and 1 is currently in 8th. Sutton should be very proud of their performance, especially given the other sides in the league which have much more clout to get them up.

Congrat's to Sutton but I hope their fans enjoy the season next term as I can see it being only for 1 season that they'll play league football.

So far as I understand, Bradders, the hope is that Madden may return for the play-offs. As you say, the chances are even better if we secure third place, and he has a week longer to recover! I have also heard Neil Ardley's name bandied about in connection with the Tranmere job.

Comparing ourselves to the champions
I'm posting this having seen the latest SW interview.
Accounting for the Dover 3 points later expunged, we had 24 points from 14 games under JG, 3 points worse than Sutton had taken from their first 14. Even though Sutton thereafter lost a game more than us (Notts, Eastleigh, Torquay, Hartlepool) - so clearly the opportunity was there to win the title in the business end when we had played competitive games for a while together - we've drawn too many winnable games and ended up 10 points behind.
SW dropped in the 'lost a 2 goal lead to Alty' in his latest interview but that was 2 points. Extracting further under JG's part-season, one could argue we could have got a point on the opening day v Torquay. That's 3 points. JG's side should have beaten Weymouth, no doubt about that one. That's 6 points. Even saying we should have beaten Alty in the other game, that's 8 points. My point is that even if JG had left us on 32 points from 14 games, after the next 27 games we would still be behind Sutton. And that's after adding in a L1 forward, having MSH up and running, and bringing in a bunch of players beyond that.
Anyway, whoever was in charge would have done a terrible job not to get us to the playoff stages so that has been achieved and every side will feel it's in their hands (which it is) to get the second spot out of the league. Let's just hope it's us!

9 Bromley 66/41 - Notts Co (H) GD +9 69
10 Halifax 65/41 - Chesterfield (H) GD +10 68
Eastleigh missed the chance to go 6th tonight after a late equalizer from Alty. Solihull out of the equation.
How close is that situation for 6th and 7th play off places. Halifax vs Chesterfield looks like the game of the day.7 of the top 8 all away from home !!

I take it the teams on 2nd and 3rd go to the semi's. I guess these are played at the home clubs ground and it's just the final that is played on Bristol?

So here we have these play-off matches to look forward to:-
Champions - Sutton United (congratulations to them and hope to see them in League 2 next year).
Saturday 5th Jun 5th Notts Co vs 6th Chesterfield -->> Winner A
Sunday 6th Jun 4th Hartlepool vs 7th Bromley --->> Winner B
Saturday 12th Jun 2nd Torquay United vs Notts Co or Chesterfield
Sunday 13th Jun 3rd Stockport Co vs Hartlepool or Bromley
Sunday 20th Jun Play Off Final at Bristol
Sutton (lost 0-2) and Torquay (drew 0-0) probably resting a few players. County scrapping over the line (winners 1-0) and last to finish keeping everyone waiting Hartlepool showing play-off intent with 4-0 win Chesterfield hanging in (winners 2-1) Wrexham (1-1) Eastleigh (0-2) Halifax (1-2) blowing their dogs chance Notts Co survive (0-1) - perhaps also rested a few critical players and settling for 5th Bromley the late showing dark horses sneaking into the frame (1-0)
Try predicting that outcome now !
County finish with the second best attack/goals (69) for and the best defence/goals against (32). 42 points away from home and just 35 gained at Edgeley Park. We drew at home with both Hartlepool and Bromley
