Didn't win the league so we'll sign a guy who's never won a major trophy and has had a decent if not spectacular fist of things in the Premier League.
But Brendan...isn't that a silly idea I hear you scream at your monitors/phone! Don't worry Liverpool fans he's a full fledged international with goals against world powerhouses such as Scotland and the equally impressive Moldova!
Sounds like this transfer is straight from the Ryan McKnight academy! Anyway sarcasm aside it's a remarkable story!

I have to concur with that sarcasm, it's a bold move, and I can't see him starting too many games. Then again, what's £7-9m in the top-flight these days? I can remember when Dean Saunders broke the British transfer record when he signed for Liverpool in the early 90s, around £3m I think it was, shocking how bad it's got.

Is Suarez off to Spain then? No idea, mate, but apparently Lambert's wife and family are going mental on FB about it. He's definitely signed for them, no idea on the fee though.

Sky Bet have suspended betting on his future after he was heavily backed on a move to Liverpool.

Anyway sarcasm aside it's a remarkable story! your point makes sense fudge, but when you analyse their squad depth, i can actually see why they'd do it, even though it's a surprise. they have so much ground to make up, and they're going to be back in europe next season. their first XI was excellent for much of last season, but when you looked at the forwards on the bench - victor moses was on loan and wasn't successful anyway, and iago aspas just didn't cut it at all. next season, if this goes ahead, they'll potentially have suarez (or a fistful of dollars) and sturridge, the returning fabio borini (who did well at sunderland), and rickie. they can't just buy 6-8 really top players for their squad; it isn't within their resources to do so. makes sense then to have a couple of decent premier league players in lambert and borini who can be rotated in and out as necessary, and who will make their bench much stronger on a week to week basis. they were great up front last season, but were very light in number up there.

Sky Bet have suspended betting on his future after he was heavily backed on a move to Liverpool. I'm not surprised, Rog, because unless his family and wife are getting ahead of themselves he's already a Liverpool player, because they've already told everyone they know they're coming home to Liverpool. He must be confident as hell of completing his medical, otherwise they're going to look pretty foolish on Saturday if he fails it!

I think he's been signed for one reason, Champions League Football has now been added to their schedule next season, so their top players will need a break from the domestic cup matches with them having to play in the PL & CL. So Lambert in my opinion, will be on the bench mostly and cover injuries and domestic cup matches.

I'd play him in midfield.

I think it's a decent deal for all involved. For Lambert, because he gets a chance to return to his home town and play with and against top-class players in the CL. For Liverpool, because they get a striker who offers them a different option when people park the bus(es), and a guy they know they can rely on to put in the effort.
BBC are reporting 4 million quid, which seems fair enough. Good luck to him.

That's a pretty fair summing up, jlc. I do hope it goes well for him, nobody can say he's not earned it.

As he kept the Villa up, and given Rogers' failure to win the title, it's no surprise Liverpool has a new manager.
