As he kept the Villa up, and given Rogers' failure to win the title, it's no surprise Liverpool has a new manager. Baddum-tish!

I think it's a decent deal for all involved. For Lambert, because he gets a chance to return to his home town and play with and against top-class players in the CL. For Liverpool, because they get a striker who offers them a different option when people park the bus(es), and a guy they know they can rely on to put in the effort. BBC are reporting 4 million quid, which seems fair enough. Good luck to him. Seems about right. We won't know until next season what they're doing about it but, at first glance, it seems a little odd that they've given priority to adding to an attack that scored 101 league goals before they've strengthened a defence that leaked more goals than every other top 8 team except for Spurs. I'm old fashioned and I'd always build a team from the back and up the spine. Given that Liverpool made nearly £50M from Sky, I'd have been looking to spend the bulk of that on a couple of decent centre backs.

A team that scores 5 goals in a game can still lose.
A team that concedes 0 goals in a game can't.

As much as I like Rodgers and dislike City, I think Pellegrini should have been Manager of the Year.
Won the League & scored the most goals. The other contenders, including Liverpool, 'bottled it'
IMO of course.

That's a fair comment, Rog, but Pulis for me. What he achieved with that Palace side was fantastic.

I think it's all in proportion, Pellegrini did the best but City winning the league is no achievement. Rogers turned Liverpool from a midtable team to title contenders and back in the CL

I think it's all in proportion, Pellegrini did the best but City winning the league is no achievement. Rogers turned Liverpool from a midtable team to title contenders and back in the CL Pellegrini did do the best and therefore should have been awarded accordingly. I wouldn't say City winning the league is no achievement, they were challenged all the way until the others bottled it. Had Liverpool won it, then yes, Rodgers would have been the winner. Pulis and Poyet in the top four, in 3rd & 4th respectively.

I'd have been looking to spend the bulk of that on a couple of decent centre backs. well they spent £25m on two centre backs on the last day of the transfer window last summer, as well as toure on a free! they might need to get rid of agger. i like him but he's very injury prone. i suspect sakho will turn out to be very good for them - he's only about 23 as well. i would probably buy a top left back first, and maybe switch flanagan to the right because he's a better defender than johnson, and i've seen that johnson only had two assists last season; so the much mooted strength of his game hasn't been that strong recently. i'd have liked them to have a tickle at luke shaw, but with so many clubs interested, that's going to be a moneybags transfer. having said that, i believe evra has signed on again for united, so perhaps they might not pursue shaw this summer.
