I was interviewed today by a London based press-officer for Age UK (who sponsor our Walking Football project). He looked about 17, but so do most people to me who don't possess any facial hair. After a few of the usual questions about background, involvement and benefits of taking part, he threw me a little bit as he asked me why I was wearing a Finland shirt with the number 10 on it and named on the back with "Litmanen". So I threw it back at him. "Simple", I replied, "It's to cover up the Vietnam national shirt I'm wearing underneath" !!! His chin nearly hit the ground when I showed him the sweat stained, yellow starred red shirt. (I ought to say here that I have a collection of shirts purchased in countries I or members of my family have visited. I bought the Finnish in Tallinn one as I couldn't find one for Estonia). |

If you insist:- 1 Through ball but took two touches in the area and rightly ruled out (left side foot inside left post). We were 0-3 down at the time. 2 Left foot - across the keeper in off the inside of the right post from outside the D. Very pleasing. Right on half time. 1-3 3 One on one, sold the dummy and planted it left foot in the bottom right corner. Wrongly disallowed for 2 touch encroaching into box although I only had one touch in the actual area. Much miffed !!! 4 Long ball through the air, back to goal, spun and placed it first touch on the bounce passed the keeper (left foot again) as he ducked thinking I was going to smash it. 2-3 5 Free kick edge of area, rolled back to me and hit with an outside left foot swerve. Top left hand corner. A peach from distance. 4-3 6 Mistake from the keeper's distribution, straight to my feet in the box. Pulled it back outside the box and placed it inside of left foot into top left corner. 5-5 7 Direct free kick bent around the wall (of two) inside of left foot - top corner again. Pure magic. 6-5. Final score - 7-5 |

I went in goals first and kept it to nil-nil in the initial onslaught- we then went 0-3 down in double quick time after changing keepers !!! Fitness and youth prevailed (average age of our team 67.5 !!). We had so much possession 2nd half we didn't know what to do with the ball. I went back in goals at 7-5 to see the win out. Competitive ? Moi ? |

Very impressive, lennie. After my hernia op I was pretty much wiped out by walking the dogs.
