I did like Moke's enthusiasm against Harrogate, but as I said I can't take anything from that in terms of whether or not he should be retained. Having said that, if he has showed that for most of the season and we could afford the cash to do so, I would see no reason why he couldn't be kept on, I'd rather have a young 'could be... but' than an ageing bag of 'never was and never will be'. It's not that simple for us though, and we need to maximise every single penny we spend.

I'd also be inclined to keep Milligan because he sweeps in front of the defence and is the only outlet other than the long ball. I think the reduction in goals conceded dates from the time that he joined. I feel sorry for Moke because he wants to be in the game all the time but, as ars says, he's just not productive and it's difficult to make the case for retaining him. interesting point on milligan, archie. hadn't thought before that he'd contributed to the clean sheets, and like you say, they seem to dovetail with him having settled in. i've thought that was more about having finally found a stable central defensive pairing - i don't think milligan is mobile enough to really screen effectively. in possession, he annoyed me at brackley - i think i probably said in a match thread - because there were occasions with them down to ten men where he had a lot of space in midfield and could have carried the ball and maybe got into a position from which he could hurt the opposition with his passing. instead, he would just hit a long pass, and they weren't very accurate. that suggested to me that his engine's gone, and if we were to retain him, we'd need another CM with plenty of energy to buzz around him. obviously milligan wasn't at the club at the start of the season, but he reminds me a bit of craney who was - too slow to do everything and not very mobile. that craney/hand partnership still gives me sleepless nights. As I said, a_r_s, I've only got the evidence of 2 games but particularly at Colwyn Bay, Milligan was the only outlet from defence and there was a yawning gap between him and Platt and Lofthouse. At least one of them should have been available to him for a short pass but they didn't seem to want to drop deep enough. Ironically, when play was with Milligan further up the field they were almost too close but never found the space to do anything but pass it straight back to him. At his age his engine must be a concern particularly on part-time training and if we can get someone younger who can do the same job that's fine but the sweeping midfield role is often best done by an old pro with younger legs doing the up and down field link work. As far as I could see it was Milligan's job to shield the defence and he did that perfectly well for our level. Shield the middle and cut out dangerous crosses and you're well on the way to a clean sheet. It should be the job of others to be within 10 yards for a short ball otherwise he is forced to hit low percentage passes.

That's a good assessment that, Archie.

it is gazz. and only having seen someone in two games is not always a problem - you bring fresh eyes to it, whereas i've probably formed my opinions during some really poor performances like away at guiseley, solihull and second half at brackley. i quite like being proved wrong by players (stand up, stephen o'halloran), but i think i've a way to go on milligan yet.

MOKE has gone.......
"Like to wish Stockport county all the best for the next season great club great fans lucky guy to play for such a massive team #scfc❤️ 6:51pm - 10 May 14"
To be honest I m disappointed as he was one of the few players who were not afraid to run at players and put defences under pressure. Yes sometimes the end product was not there but with time I was sure he was going to improve . I hope Lordy has got a better replacement signed up , someone with ideas and drive and skill. Yes even at this level.

Good luck to the lad. I can't comment on his season, but I thought he showed a decent amount of enthusiasm against Harrogate, and seemed to be enjoying playing for us that day.

i really liked his attitude, and that's exemplified in his tweet. fair play to him for that. unfortunately over the season, he just didn't do enough - as much as he often threatened to... good luck to him in the future. hope he does alright for himself.

I wouldn't have minded seeing Mokes get another chance. Decent player and a great attitude never once gave less than his all.
Best of luck to the lad!

I hope he's just waiting until July 1st when the window officially opens! Who knows though........I'll be disappointed if the fans have been lied to just to buy season tickets, disappointed but not surprised sadly.

It'll be interesting to see who these players are, but it's not so much the retained list I'm concerned about. Well I am, but not as much as I am regarding the lack of movement on the new additions front, it's this that worries me the most. On a side note, isn't Gavin Browne giving us a fantastic amount of his time, it really is brilliant to have him onside. Long may it continue.

Until Jacobs signs I won't be getting too excited. Keeping hold of players of his calibre is of paramount importance, not only for the squad as it is, but also to show potential new signings that we already have some class at the club, knowing they will be playing alongside players like him could make the difference.

I'd have swapped Moses and Howard round and kept the latter
