It annoys me that so many English people go out and celebrate St Patrick's day and drink Guinness and get smashed, yet they don't even know when St George's day is!! About 4 or 5 years ago, the people of Oldham were told they were not allowed to fly the St George cross from their houses on St Georges day in case it offend the Indian and Pakistani communities!! I think that highlights where the problem lies, I thought this was a multi-cultural society? Some of them have a cheek to label the English as racist, yet how come I never hear of them kicking up a stink over St. Patrick's Day, just St. George's Day? Oh the irony. I have no issues with anyone celebrating their pride in their own nationality, so why do some nationalities feel the need to do their utmost to stop us celebrating our pride in ours? My major gripe is why we don't do enough to push the matter, I just don't get this issue with the George Cross. If they don't like us flying our flag, that's their problem, not ours. If it bothers them that much, they're free to move to another part of the world where they don't fly it.

Since turning 18 I've had a drunk on St. George's Day and Canada Day without fail whilst wearing the appropriate attire (England Football Shirt/Canada Hockey Jersey) and no one is going to tell me I can't!
I have a St George's Cross and a Maple Leaf Flag on my bedroom wall and when the curtains are open it's obvious from the street! I dare someone to moan! I double dare them!

Well said, Fudgie, and you have an absolute right to show your pride in both of your nationalities.

Stuff like that does seem to be happening more and more, I used to think it was just tabloid hatemongering but I have seen signs up in certain neighbourhoods in areas of Tameside, particularly Clarendon near the bus station that has forbidden the flying of any national flags!
However I would never have issue with a foreigner flying his/her home nations flag nor have I ever been met with any opposition!

The bottom line is, everyone should be able to celebrate their national day and fly their own nation's flag in the window of their houses if they so wish, wherever they come from and wherever they are in the world.

While we are on flags I move for a ban on the sale or flying of City flags on environmental grounds ;

There is a City flag in a garden near me, raised around the time they won the league and disappeared around the time United clinched the league and Wigan beat City in the cup final yet it made a reappearance the day after they won the league cup. Funny that!

You'll be pleased to know Sandy Jnr's nursery all went in dressed in red and white today and had fish and chips for lunch!

And me, a Kraut, celebrating St.George's Day, when 60% of English people don't know when it is and only 19% are celebrating it!
Two essential pieces of a English music:
