Many thanks for all the kind words and good wishes, gents. I shall be sure to pass them on to Rick and his family.
Genuinely touched by how much support there has been on here - especially for the fight being fought by someone unknown. Thank you. X

Just a brief update below (courtesy of his daughter to me and my Squash Club) on Rick, who is making great strides on the long road to recovery. Some of us, as Rick's team-mates, have produced video clips wishing him well, so that he can hear them on his iPad in hospital. In the course of my message, I mentioned all the love for him that has been on CH - which will leave him, as a Hull City fan, touched and amused in equal measure! Thanks again, guys. ***************************************************************************************************** Showed some of these videos to Mum, and they are so lovely. I have just exported the finished video now, and am sending it to Dad today.
Dad came off the support of the ventilator completely 48 hours ago, and had his tracheostomy removed yesterday. He is talking all the time now, able to use his right arm, and has just started to hold a pen (he’s been doing the crossword to keep brain-active, he said!), has good movement in his right leg, and has started moving his left arm.
Plan is to step down to a ward and out of Critical Care - probably within around a week - and then look at getting into a Neuro Rehabilitation Centre, to go through intense physio and occupational therapy, potentially for a couple of months.
He says he is feeling very motivated, and has already been doing his own ‘rehab’ movements to regain movement he had lost. He’s moving way faster than anyone expected, so we are very pleased with progress.

That is absolutely staggering, mate, I'm so pleased to read that. Rick really is made of stern stuff, literally battling back from the brink - it really is awe-inspiring. Next time I'm asked who I'd like stood by me in a trench, my list will have an extra name added to it: My Grandad Stuart Pearce Roy Keane Mike Flynn & a guy named Rick Bower. Thanks for the update, matey!
