Hi all,
We are all clearly in for the long haul because of Covid-19, and it is throwing in plenty of major everyday changes to test us for good measure. Unprecedented, and worrying times - which have prompted this thread, hopefully for the greater Heavenly good!
The idea behind it is for us Heaveners to share, or sound off about, our own personal experiences, challenges and stresses arising from Coronavirus - even if it is simply missing County! - in the hope that it can act as a kind of therapy, and keep us connected as a virtual community.
Let us try and use it to support each other in the context of our lifestyles and general wellbeing - and with that in mind, keep away, as far as may be possible, from the politics around the situation. There are already some great 'Off Topic' threads where we can continue to go a-politician-bashing!
In the meantime, stay safe and well.
Hugs,
Maccy

Great idea, Maccy. I'm personally (at the time of writing) still expected to turn up for work, but I'm currently taking some time off. I'd already booked this week off after the recent round of redundancies left my nerves shot and me needing a break! I'm due back in a week on Sunday, but a lot can change between now and then, so who knows. My eldest son has been working at Manchester Airport until last week when, due to the flatlining of flights in and out of there, he was sent home until further notice. He remains in their 'employment' for now, but time will tell if they will honour this and pay him in line with the Government's '80%' announcement - I'm not holding my breath. My youngest son is a Unisex hair stylist and is still in work today, but they've been told that his salon may be closing from Monday, although nothing concrete has been decided as yet. My sister is also a stylist in another salon on Great Moor and she's been told today that they may also be closing after today. My folks have rightly asked me to stay away until this clears, so I am currently unable to visit them. This is a real wrench, but my Mum is in her 70s now and isn't in the best of health, so although it's a harsh measure, it's also a no-brainer. I won't get to see my kids for some time either, as I really do not wish to travel on public transport at the moment, so this is really going to be a tough time emotionally for me. I'm trying hard not to feel any anger towards the Chinese and their way of life, but it's becoming increasingly difficult not to. Some of the videos I've seen posted online regarding those 'wet markets' and how they treat live animals has seriously disturbed me, so much so that I honestly don't think I'll ever look at that nation in the same way ever again. I know that last paragraph can be seen as a political rant, but it seems to have started there, so how can I not vent my frustration towards them? How has this f***ed up so much so quickly?

Here's some really good news, not! www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/mar/18/tip-of-the-iceberg-is-our-destruction-of-nature-responsible-for-covid-19-aoeAs it points out, some of the populations of these places don't have access to basics like fridges On a more cheerful note, as described earlier this week, I've discovered that bread making is a damn sight easier than you'd imagine although it took 3 goes to get it spot on. Problem is trying not to eat it while its still warm and I definitely haven't mastered that yet. As for the football. I'm a bit narked that my only "local" by local I mean it's only 65 miles away, game at Barrow has bitten the dust but hey ho, it could be worse, I could have a telly and be watching the gobshite Johnson airing his faux statesman persona every night.

And he only started doing it yeast-erday... I predict an a-bun-dance of bread-related puns here, but I'm not going to rise to them!

The Germans are apparently stock piling Sausage and Cheese.
They are expecting a Wurst Kase scenario

Sorry about that one, but it made me laugh.
My garden has never looked so good this early in the year. Patios scrubbed and hosed down and the front drive brought back to life. Trees being pruned and not a weed in site. Azaleas, hydrangea, camellias all sprouting forth in an abundance of colour. I have even cleaned the windows.
1000 piece jigsaw of Lowry's Leaving the Mill finished (blimey, he could have used a few more brighter colours). Mother in Law coming to stay tomorrow can win at everything).
Tommy getting 2 longer walks everyday as well.
And............................. I hate shopping at the best of times so when there is only one choice of breaded fish it makes the whole experience a joy.
Watch the first 2 episodes on Netflix (borrowed of son's account) of The English Game. Some writer's licence as usual but a very interesting take on the north-south football divide in 1880.
Stay safe and look after loved ones. (Thank goodness for Skype and Facetime)

Just penned my weekly Macc Express column - and, I fear, my final piece of active sports journalism for a while, following the suspension of our County Squash Leagues. Lucky enough to have some other, non-journo work to get on with at home - while dovetailing with Mrs Macc, and, as of now, Macc Junior whose GCSE endeavours were yesterday cut off in their prime.
Will give The English Game a go later, Sir Len. Thanks for the recommendation!

I’m actually working harder than before! I have a schedule of ten minute one to one video conferences with all of my class, we are preparing videos to talk them through the expected learning everyday. Demonstrating how to log on and use various websites to accomodate their learning as well as ensuring we plan offline activities to. Not to mention marking all work submitted electronically...

My daughter recently moved back to Dudley as she couldn’t afford to live on assistant manager wages on her own... she got a job as an assistant manager in a café in a shopping centre 4 weeks ago, 2 weeks ago she was told there weren’t enough customers because of the virus and she was reduced to zero hours and told to try and find another job! Obviously my son’s DJ work has stopped completely so it has really hit the family quite hard.

My son’s girlfriend has been bread making this afternoon. Asking me for advice all the way through!!

I take my hat off to you guys, Duds - you really are doing an incredible job keeping the education system going. I fear that employers up and down the country are going to be trying every trick in the book to screw their staff and protect their own interests. My best wishes go out to your family.
