Following the excellent vinyl thread, it got me thinking of other things worth collecting. My main guilty pleasure used to be Gerry Anderson Dinky Models, of which I have a few. Does anyone else on here have a particular thing they're into and have collected over the years? I'll start off with this little beauty from my collection, around 40 years old. I'm thinking of seeing what I can get for it on ebay, but I'm not 100% sure yet:

Surely Thunderbird 2 was green in the TV programme ?
I remember making a Blue Peter Tracey Island for the lads when they were like gold dust.

Surely Thunderbird 2 was green in the TV programme ? I remember making a Blue Peter Tracey Island for the lads when they were like gold dust. You're absolutely right, Lennie, and the original 1960s editions of the model were indeed green. I also have one of those too, that one's not boxed either, but it's still worth a few quid I expect. For some reason, the 70s Dinky Toys brought with them the strange tendency to make all Gerry Anderson models in a different colour to their TV counterparts, and I've never understood why. I remember that Tracy Island rush, Matchbox blatantly manufacturing way short of demand to ensure endless queues at shops and 'Sold Out' signs everywhere. I also have the Matchbox collection too, the models not the Island, but they're not worth much because Matchbox got greedy and continued making them after the craze wore off.

We also bought a Tracey Island when they released more. I still think mine was a better build and we gave it away to our youngest lad's best mate.
Then sold the plastic one years later at a car boot for more than we paid originally for it.
Also conjured up a 2 foot high Thunderbird 1 birthday cake. The things we did for a quiet life. Thank goodness for extra large swiss rolls.

Well, apart from the 1966 World Cup programmes, I'd guess that my main collectables link to the thread about vinyl records. Since I sold a number as an impoverished student there have been a number that have gone missing but I still have a few obscure ones that are, apparently, worth a bit including this:
I never knew what happened to the early edition Scalextric.

I collect autographs.
Last week I came home from an auction with a signed photo of Ronnie Corbett, while my brother bought a signed photo of Ronnie Barker.
So it was a good buy from me, and a good buy from him.

I collect stamps.
More precisely, as many as I can before Royal Mail put the prices up at the end of the month.

Interesting - Channel 537 Yesterday.
Sound of the 60's
Opened with the Equals and then Amen Corner. These are the formative years of my life being played out on a HISTORY channel.
Can't believe some of the camera angles allowed at knee height given the short dresses on view !!!
PS it's even in black and white !!!!

could you see growler, lennie?!?
another decent joke from the epworth collection.
is that your own actual thunderbird 2 gazz, or have you used an internet photo? cos if it's yours, fair play to you - it's in astonishingly good nick. it shows a bit of foresight to decide to keep certain things, i think over time everything i had of dinky and matchbox and all the other seventies stuff got chipped and scuffed, then eventually made its way to car boot sales. i think the torpedoes from the batmobile lasted about five minutes before disappearing forever!

It's mine, mate, but I can't take credit for its condition. I got it off someone else many years ago. I did own the blue one as a kid but the last thing I remember was burying it in the back garden for some reason, but that's the last memory I have of it. Maybe I was a dog in a previous life?! I know it had with yellow legs, and my Mum bought it me from Robinson's on Castle Street!
I keep this one in a box of shredded newspaper. I also have a couple of other dinky die-casts, Space:1999 Eagles, they're in fantastic condition too.

I don't have anything seriously collectible, I have some old county programmes from the 60s and 70s!
Some premier league football cards from the 98/99 season with the United ones signed by various treble winning players.

i loved those space 1999 guns! not as good as the blake's seven ones, but i don't think they ever got sold... how come you've got three, you weirdo! (your very predictable answer is going to be 'they're all different', presumably...which i suppose is fair enough!)

(your very predictable answer is going to be 'they're all different', presumably...which i suppose is fair enough!) One is a kit I put together and painted myself, the other two are custom made by a professional prop maker in Montana USA. I bought more than one prop replica because I don't know how long the guy is going to be making them for, so I got more than one so I can sell one or two and keep the other sometime in the future. You're right about the weirdo bit too, I frighten myself sometimes!
