First sub four-minute mile Indeed - hats off to Sir Roger! I wonder when our very own Sir Roger will once again grace this forum?... What do you say, Rog? I know you're out there reading this! It would be such a treat to welcome Heaven's Sir Rog back as an active poster. I bet that, in any event, he will be well chuffed to see the Word Association thread he began still going strong! I have never met 'our Rog' in person - although my path did once cross, at a work-related event around ten years ago - with that of his sub-four-minute-miler namesake, who, as it happens, went to primary school with my father... and remembered him, despite their not having seen each other in 65 years. By that time, as I told Sir Roger, Dad was quite seriously ill, and our brief conversation ended with him asking me to pass on his best wishes when I next visited the family home. And that, I thought, was that. But before the evening was out, he tracked me down to hand over a piece of paper addressed to Dad. He had taken the time to break from socialising and write him a letter, reflecting on their schooldays as well as expressing his regret over Dad's failing health. It was a great act of kindness from a true gentleman - and, although Father Macc is no longer with us, I know how very much his spirits were lifted on reading the letter. Here's to you, Roger Bannister...

On this day in 1991 we smashed Scunthorpe 5-0 at Edgeley Park to earn promotion to Division 3/League 1.
My first ever game in which my Dad took me in a back pack with my heading popping out! I was less than a year old and he wasn't prepared to miss that!
My mum was on hand, in case I got too loud with my crying or my chanting (somewhat less likely!) to take me home but she wasn't needed in the end!

I went drinking down the Grove that night in my Gordon Ford shirt and soon lost count of the amount of people who, after seeing my shirt either in a pub or walking along the A6, gave a fist pump accompanied by a mutter of "go on, County!" People started taking notice of us after that, and it's all thanks to Danny - here's to the man from Uruguay!

I remember my first day back in college I walked through them doors to my mainly City and United supporting class like Homer Simpson when he's solid Gold and jewel encrusted! NO ONE could've said anything to get me down that day. Sure United were a week or so from winning the PL/CL double, sure City were a couple of months away from becoming multi-billionaires but it didn't matter in them glorious days....We'd won at Wembley, for Danny and led by one of Danny's best signings and most loyal servants, it literally couldn't have gone any better!

Also the anniversary today of THAT Stephen Gleeson goal which supposedly meant nothing... As if that was 9 years ago! Crazy to think that many of that team of hungry, young talented players can now be described as 'seasoned pros' at best and 'getting on a bit' at worst! What memories though.

Anyone else's first to visit to Wembley the 1-0 loss to Stoke 25 years ago today?

Anyone else's first to visit to Wembley the 1-0 loss to Stoke 25 years ago today? That was my second visit. I'd been to see England schoolboys v France Schoolboys some time in the 70s with my junior school, but I remember that offside Mark Stein goal like it was yesterday. Yes, it was offside under the old rules, as Wayne Bigears and I think another player were trotting back and still offside when Stein got his shot away. Also, Paul Wheeler did not foul Peter Fox either, so we should have already been 1-0 up by the time Stein scored anyway. Just one in a long list of pi** poor decisions that screwed us at that dump of an old stadium that I was personally glad to see flattened!

Quite, my Dad had taken a party of schoolchildren from St Matthews and I'd gone along to help supervise. I had to get up and walk out because I didn't want anybody to see a 30 year old bloke blubbing like a chuffing 10 year old lol

Thankfully, I was in the Cotswolds for a weekend away that I'd booked many months before, so I didn't have to witness that first hand. Karma got its own back Final Destination-style two years later, though - in the shape of Ted Mcf**kingMinn. While others lamented the demolition of the old stadium when they knocked out down, I was glad to see the f***ing back of it! it's just a pity they couldn't have had McMinn, Elleray, Mullen, Bodenham, Charnley, Robbie Hart, Lou Macari, Stein, Heath and Biggins sat in the royal box as it crumbled to the ground!
