1979 Margaret Thatcher sworn in And that is where the UK as we now know it all started........................ Thatcher's govt is rather like the premiership isn't it? Everything that went before it was sh*te, no critics are allowed because we all know that pre '79 this country was sh*te, since then everything has been a bed of roses. f**k the damage she caused, f**k the fact that she was essentially a wrecker who had nothing to replace what she destroyed, f**k the fact that the rest of the country should subsidise the growth of the city of London because hey, it is the greatest city on earth, etc, etc, etc. Amen to that.

Thatcher was sworn at When the news that she had died came through we were in a water park in Tenerife and all started cheering. I was in work when it came on the radio and said something along the lines of: "good riddance, you evil old cow". There was probably a significant sprinkle of swearage in there somewhere, but I'll leave that to your respective imaginations!

Sorry NYE.
She has the same effect on me. Single wage, 3 kids and a 16% mortgage interest level. Nearly killed us as a family.

Sorry NYE. She has the same effect on me. Single wage, 3 kids and a 16% mortgage interest level. Nearly killed us as a family. I left school in 1981 just as the vindictive cow was getting into her stride and with the nasty party in full flow behind her. I saw at first hand how the police were used against the miners, how their tactics were given the full blessing of the government and subsequently hidden from scrutiny. How no police officers were ever brought to trial was and remains a mystery. I went to college as a mature student and that did break my family up. The levels of debt I got into were huge, despite working 24 hours a week, on top of a full time course (engineering degrees are 4 full days of lectures plus hours of private study and homework). My student loan was considered as income when it came to claiming housing benefit. Students must be the only people on the planet who borrow and pay interest on their income. I was usually able, by careful management of overtime to keep my income below the limit where I had to repay it but when I got promotion and my income was over the limit by a whole £17 pm I was hit with a loan repayment of £153 pm! And now the bastards are at it again. The willingness of the electorate in this country to forgive the Tories anything they do, to swallow the myth of competent economic management, to accept Theresa May at face value despite her demonstrable incompetence as Home Secretary, despite the fact that she has been prepared to perform a complete about turn on the EU in order to pursue personal ambition and despite the fact that she is clearly a liar, never ceases to amaze. The only thing that I can put it down to is that for the majority in this country, cap doffing deference to money and privilege is very much alive and well. It's all soooo 18th century. Baldrick was supposed to be a comedy character not a role model!

On this day in 2018, County made their first marquee signing before embarking on a season in the Conference Prem after being promoted as champions with the title secured by mid-March.

I have a similar emotional reaction when I see pineapple on pizza. if you get extra pineapple on a pepperoni pizza though, the sweetness and juiciness is a perfect complement to the extreme saltiness of the 'meat'. also for: fruit in curries blackcurrant jam with peanut butter mango salsa with cold meats pork and apple pie chili and lime tortilla chips
