we've been under the cosh for a while, and this won't help... poor clearance from ormson (who they've just given MoM to), apparently; pure didn't seem to think fagbola had much option but to push their player over.
...tunji moses now at centre half...

pure: "county have won, but did not deserve to"
22 efforts on goal from histon. none in the second half from county!
sounds about spot on for me - i stayed in the warm and missed county chasing shadows...but we still won!

and from pete: "the highlights of this performance won't be on county's website...they'll be on 'crimewatch' a week on thursday!" Along with the crimes against our club far too numerous to mention? F**k 'em, it's three points, and the League table isn't decided by shots on target, it's all about the rustling of the onion bag. Kiss my ar*e, OPTA, County won!

spot on! i've just spoken to my brother who was grumbling about sitting in the cheadle end and not seeing a single shot towards them in the second half. said to him it was a win-win for me - really glad we won, but not remotely annoyed i didn't see it. it's apparently hailing in SK3 and i'd be walking down the cobbles, wet and cold, to wait for a train about now if i'd gone...

Well what is there to say, County did all the early running a got a lead early on, not sure what minutes it was but early on and then we pressured a bit more but to no real avail, Histon's best chance came in a goalmouth scramble where Ormson had to be at his absolute best to keep out helped out by some fortuitous bounces that finally saw Tunji Moses (I think) smash the ball clear.
In the 2nd Half County never really looked like scoring, that's not to say Histon looked any better and then with about 10 minutes to go, Histon get a clear free-kick and everyone starts furiously booing and me and my mates are all dead confused and don't actually realise until listening to Pure on the way home that Fagbola was sent off, a few decent efforts from Histon in the dying minutes saw Ormson make a few incredible saves and County held on for a win.
Far from a classic game but a win and a clean sheet (just!) after not playing at home in so long was a really welcome outcome from today which has propelled us up the table to around 15th I think, not the best but still decent enough with the games in hand, Lordy is really making this team his own!

Those games in hand are looking very useful as long as the backdated games are well spread.
Otherwise the squad might prove a little thin.
A clean sheet is not to be sniffed at (that doesn't read very well does it ? Good job Sandy isn't around).

Well, we withstood two storms today: firstly, just after lunch, when thunder, lightning and a heavy downpour failed to do enough to get the game called off at the eleventh hour; and, second, up against a visiting strike-force that had put four past the League leaders a week earlier. It must say something about the team and its spirit that County not only managed to score early, but also to hang on in the face of some quite fierce pressure. Histon will no doubt feel hard done by (and I, for one, would like another look, when the highlights appear, at the goalmouth scramble that somehow didn't produce a goal for them), but our enjoying the rub of the green against the balance of play is, frankly, well overdue! Ormson really came of age today - making some very impressive saves, and, crucially, not committing a single mistake, in conditions that did not favour good goalkeeping. He was a worthy Man of the Match, although the ever-consistent Jacobs ran him close. The tackles that led to Fagbola's cards, and eventual dismissal, didn't look especially crude, and other officials might well have given him the benefit of the doubt, given the slippery surface. At least, though, his sending-off, unlike that of Moses at Hednesford, wasn't to alter the course of the match. Apologies to Radio Macc listeners for the slightly late start of this afternoon's broadcast, but Sandy, Shropshire and I had lost track of pre-match time in The Oak! The sponsors' after-party went swimmingly well as an informal, mingling occasion, and the recipient of this forum's support, Lordy, was, as you might expect, a great pleasure to meet. Sandy and I presented him with a complimentary copy of C.H.A.O.S., and he seemed genuinely touched by that, while all those players with whom we chatted were smashing lads. I, for my sins, however, did get a tad close to semi-antagonising Liam Dickinson, after he had kindly posed for a photo with Macc Junior, by reminding him that he missed a penalty in the course of the game (against Grimsby, late December back in '06) when the little 'un had been Match Mascot. Dicko denied ever having fluffed a spot-kick, but, when he reflects on it, he will secretly remember that I was right... . Oh, and Nicky Platt (who was chuffed to bits at having scored today) looks much less like Sting, close up!
