In the three and a half tests that he managed in the 2005 Ashes, Jones took 18 priceless wickets. That’s a good return in anyone’s book. The fast bowling quartet of the 2005 Ashes was very well balanced, and Jones was a key part of it. The way he bowled with the old ball and his mastery of reverse swing was a key factor in us winning the series.
It was such a shame for both him and for English (and Welsh) cricket that his body couldn’t hold up to the rigours of the game. He was a very talented cricketer who had his career cruelly snatched away from him.

Also, after doing a little bit more research, Jones’ figures for that series compare very favourably to the other bowlers from both teams. The England wicket takers in the series were Flintoff (24) followed by Jones (18) and then Harmison (17), Hoggard (16) and Giles (10). Bearing in mind, Jones took his 18 in just 3 and a half tests.
Warne took a ridiculous 40 wickets in the series at an average of 19.92, but the second best bowling average was that of Jones at just 21.00.
Jones also had the best strike rate of any bowler, taking a wicket every 34.0 deliveries. For context, the next best was Warne* who averaged a wicket every 37.9 balls, followed by McGrath averaging a wicket every 42.3 balls. The bowler with the second best strike rate for England was Hoggard at 45.8.
When you look at the stats, it really does emphasise just how good Jones’ performance was.
*Ponting actually had a strike rate of 36.0 after taking one wicket from his six overs of part time medium pace, but that doesn’t really count due to the small sample size.

Brilliant research, mate, that was a very interesting read.

Archer and Woakes have both bowled brilliantly. Hopefully, the tail can now be finished off...

Another gone, one more needed to get an unlikely win and take it to a series decider!

Aussie can't get it off the square.
All out playing late on the ball. Has someone turned the lights down a tad ?

Sweet Caroline indeed. All over 24 run win.
Nicely set up for the decider.
