Yeah, I'm too old and cynical to play the game. It's a shame as RSD was designed to give a sales boost to independent record stores by encouraging vinyl fans into the stores and hopefully build loyalty across the year. It has been taken over by scalpers, as you say gazz, and the record stores seem complicit in it. They are prioritising short term gain over longer term customer loyalty. Yep, not playing that game. I'll keep my money and buy what I want in my own time and not feel pressured. Thankfully, I'm into slightly more niche bands, so any big names with RSD releases are of no interest to me.

Excellent Madness site, with their story told via quotes from the band themselves and those around them: sevenraggedmen.com/

RSD update:
One eBay seller has sold 42 copies of the Double coloured vinyl edition of 'Junk Culture' by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark.
How's he's managed to get that many copies, when they only went on sale at 8am today, in-store purchases only and limited to one per customer?
That's some pair of f***ing armpits he's got there to be able to carry that many home from the store!
To anyone that queued up outside their local record store this morning and didn't get what they went down there for - you've been had!
Record Store Day is a con, it's shady and it needs boycotting.

That's disgraceful, gazz. It started off with good intentions, but has evolved into a con

Another problem with RSD is the pricing. I've had an email today from Sister Ray with the online RSD vinyl.
Pixies live from Red Rocks is £34 for 2 LPs orange splatter. Kristen Hersh Hips and Makers 30th anniversary is £38 for 2 LPs clear turquoise.
I love Pixies and Hips and Makers is one my favourite albums of all time, almost wearing out the CD. But for those prices -no chance; I'll wait until they are half price in a few months time.

Rough Trade have Hips and Makers at £43 😲 That's a disgrace, they're clearly holding the stock back to create the panic, I can't quite bring myself to suggest a boycott, because I think it's one of the things that is helping to keep vinyl popular. It needs regulating, though, because it's just not about the enthusiast or the small shops anymore, it's all about the money. I managed to get myself a copy of the Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark 'Junk Culture - Demos & Rarities', Half-Speed Mastered double coloured vinyl album and it's absolutely fantastic. I know, I know, but I just couldn't resist it.

New addition This compilation was released in 1993, at a time when vinyl was being phased out and CD had started to become the main format of choice for the majority of music lovers - needless to say that it didn't sell very well. When vinyl started to make a comeback a 2014 reissue was released, but with one glaring omission - the withdrawn Elvis Costello single, which must surely have been down to copyright issues. How it slipped through the net for the 1993 release is anyone's guess, but it's since become a bit of a 2 Tone collector's item and finding a copy isn't easy, but I managed to through a seller in High Peak. I do have the HMV ‘1921’ Edition limited edition clear double vinyl reissue from 2023, but that one doesn't have the Elvis Costello withdrawn single either, so I've been trying to find this one for the past year, and now I have it! It wasn't all plain sailing, however, as I initially thought I'd found one on Discogs from a seller in Switzerland, but when it arrived it was the 2014 reissue - the seller had listed it under the wrong release info. Luckily, though, after getting my refund and posting it back to him, I found a copy on eBay and asked the seller for photos to confirm which release it was, and it was the one I was after! This 2 Tone Collection is going to have to go on the backburner for now, as I'm going on holiday in a few weeks! Cheers, thank you!

That's fantastic, mate. I'm absolutely loving my vinyl and the longer this continues, the better - it's the only way to listen to music! I'm so into this now, I'm seriously considering asking the other half for a Technics SL1210 for Christmas this year, as it's been over a year now with my Audio Technica and I'm still as into it as I was when I first bought it - so I can safely say that this is not just a fad!

I'm sick of the typos with this phone, it's getting bloody worse.
That meant to say "the longer this continues..."
