I've read most of Cussler's books and they are a good read but in my opinion a bit lightweight compared to the Reacher series.
The NUMA series involving marine based research and recovery includes Dirk Pitt , he is a good character but he makes some of James Bond's most incredible escapes seem like child's play. The book Sahara was made into a film a few years ago and it is passable enough.
Cussler earlier books are all marine based and often the character would meet and be helped by an old sailor, aka Cussler himself!

Cussler also wrote "Raise the Titanic". He's worth a try.
Not read any Jack Reacher, Gazza. Must give them a try.

Cheers, Duds/Lennie - I'll probably have to give one of the books a try and see how I find it.
@ Lennie: Start with 'Killing Floor', matey, it's the very first one and a work of absolute creative genius!

Cheers Gazza.
The Cussler's don't rely on each other so read them in any order. He often co-writes with others. Not all his books are Dirk Pitt stories.

As it turned out, I never got around to reading Jack Reacher number 11: 'Bad Luck And Trouble' until last week, but I'm pleased to say that I finally finished it on my break during my last night shift of the week. Another excellent read, with number 12: 'Nothing To Lose' about to drop through my letterbox any day now - I'm definitely going to start reading that one as soon as it arrives........ Probably!

Peter May writes a gritty novel. Just started reading his latest "I'll keep you safe".

anybody recommend any of james patterson's? just read 'midnight club' (complete with trump plaza) and a newer one, and they were both enjoyable, fast reads. he's got about a thousand books out, so any recommendations welcome.

I read one of his 'collaboration' books with a lesser known author (so much so I forget his name) but it was called Private Games. I think.
I now realise this is not entirely helpful.
The book was quite good though.
