Some of the jobsworths around are so annoying. But here it is almost worse because everything has to be printed and signed for anything official. I had to print out a copy of a 45 page document which I had received when I bought my flat in order to sign up for the water company! I have it by email but no, it has to be a printed copy… everything here needs copies of paperwork. I’m surprised the country doesn’t set on fire!!

Black Friday.
Where retailers gently nudge prices up on a wide range of items over a few weeks leading up to it, then miraculously put them back down to where they were in the first place in order to give morons, sorry, shoppers a cracking 'discount'.
f*** OFF!

Roger Milla's 'Wiggle'.
This always pisses me off whenever I see football shows or documentaries claiming he started it. This time it's the 'Italia 90: Four weeks that changed the world' Sky documentary crediting him with it.
Fact is that Brazil's Careca did it first against Sweden three days earlier, yet Milla has always been credited with starting the craze!
I knew it the moment he did it against Romania and I remember I said as much when I watched that game live, that he's nicked it off Careca.
Did he f*** start it, he nicked it and he's been dining off it ever since!
Here's the original from Careca...

Sam Matterface.
Imagine thinking you should, on national TV, say something as classless as us needing Lineker but getting Waddle, straight after Kane's miss.
Just wow.

Cheap, offensive and unprofessional. Why on earth did ITV allow the thoroughly decent Clive Tyldesley to return home early, and retain the so-called 'lead commentator' services of this glib, snide cretin?

To be fair, I think the comment was meant more as a reference to the events, rather than the players themselves. Lineker hit two against Cameroon and Waddle's penalty was just like Kane's - I honestly don't think it was a malicious dig at Kane or Waddle.
I think it was one of those comments that seemed better in his head than out loud. In the heat of the moment I just don't think he thought it through.

I agree with you up to a point, gazz - although he seems to be one of those commentators who thrives on having pre-prepared lines for these occasions. I suspect, as you say, that it did sound good in his head, but also that it had been there for a while, rather than thought up on the spur of the moment - which would make what he said crassly misjudged at best.
On a more positive note, it was a very good England performance. With the likes of Bellingham, Foden, Rice and Saka, there is a basis for going all the way in subsequent tournaments of the '20s. Hard luck this time, but really well played.

You're probably right about him, Maccy, as I've not really listened to him much, so I was just going off last night's game to be honest.
I really appreciate your comments regarding our exit last night, mate, cheers!
Foden and Bellingham could be the nearest we have come to having another Gascoigne and Ince, so I hope Southgate builds the next tournament team around those two.

he works for talksport, so thrives on glib digs. clearly he was riffing on the sven thing of needing churchill and getting iain duncan smith. i'm not very keen on gabriel clarke either. he always asks w**kers questions when something has gone wrong. it says something that roy keane was comparitively cuddly about england going out.
we didn't watch it live, as very inconveniently, my dad just had to turn 80 on saturday. i drove through a blizzard to my mum's and dad's, set the game to record, and went out for a meal. my cousin was watching it on his phone while we were eating, and the restaurant had it on so there was never any chance of getting back and watching it without knowing the score (which was the plan), and it was over before we got back. i managed to get stopped for having a headlight out and was breathalysed for the first time ever. blew zero, but i'm not sure my dad's "he's only had coke..." from the passenger seat was that helpful.
anyway, watched the match, having seen kane put the pen over when we were leaving the restaurant - we filed out, then quickly filed back in to watch it - and despite the knowledge of defeat, was pretty impressed with england. it was a far cry from the poor performances and capitulations of 2010 and 2014, and of course against the world champs, yet there were an immediate few "southgate's taken it as far as he can"s, despite as far as he can having been a quarter, a semi and a final in major tournaments. yeah he's a bit cautious, but surely it's a positive having vastly reduced the cliques and sense of doom hovering over england.
still. beat morocco to get to a world cup final? ouch.

still. beat morocco to get to a world cup final? ouch. Pretty much the same feeling I had when the Germans knocked us out in the semis in 1990, I'm convinced we'd have turned over the Argies, even without Gazza. Ah, well, I'll be 57 when the next World Cup kicks off... At least Diana Ross should be too old to take a penalty at the opening ceremony, so 'every cloud' and all that. Maybe Harry Kane could volunteer to do the honours?

yeah it's a strong parallel with 1990 in that the thought was 'beat these and we'll never have a better chance...' being there or thereabouts is preferable to the collapse against the germans in 2010 or being beaten by suarez on one leg in 2014. it's a different kind of hard to take.
