Some great memories there guys. Really wish I'd been around to experience some of those.
Reckon we'll ever see that kind of crowd or atmosphere at County again?

Who knows, Sagey, but right now I'll settle for another twenty odd years of football league nothingness. It'd be infinitely better than this.

Toddy kneeing the ball back to Paul Jones who picked it up to a howl of protest from the Burnley fans. Anyone else remember Toody kneeing it back to Jones? He did it all the time. I remember because at the time I was in the school team so used to do it too!!! yeah, and there was always a predictable howl of protest from the opposition supporters! the everton home atmosphere was good like you said. i also enjoyed the burnley game in about '95-'96 when 'tin man' was berated so much by our fans that firstly he switched wings, then got subbed off, and the home game against brentford in about '92 when we were the top two and kev got that late, late equaliser. i think the most was liverpool at home in '84. obviously edgeley had shrunk significantly by then, but i think the attendance was over 11k, and the arsenal home also in the league cup three years earlier might have been too.

Speaking of the Southend lies, do you remember a similar incident at Darlo in 2007, another great atmosphere, where there were rumours about Hartlepool equalising?

I was also at the Liverpool game in 1965. I stood behind the goal at the Cheadle end sporting a large black & white rosette about 18 inches across. WE were the lily whites in those days, white shirt with black shorts. A crowd of 24080 squeezed into EP. We lost 2-0 after a 1-1 draw at Liverpool. The press reported that fans had climbed the floodlight pylons to get a better view of the game. My colleagues at work from that day refer to my footwear as pylon-climbers.

I've still never experienced a properly big cup tie, the biggest was when we visited then Premier League Watford and we almost had Villa one year but that's about it!

Great shout on the Brentford game, ars. Kev put them in front with an OG, and did 'score' before he got the winner when Benstead clawed it back from over the line. That late winner** is as crazy as I've gone at a County match, everybody was just hugging each other. I remember one guy just jumping on me and apologising afterwards, class day that. Jim was immense, playing centre back he kept the division three top scorer Dean Holdsworth in his back pocket and still got up to power in the equaliser, one of his greatest ever County games that.
** Why did I put equaliser? I think I'm losing it.

You're not the only one, so did I! I have no idea why I did that. Did you go the the York Autoglass game the following Tuesday when Jim bagged a hat-trick, and Kenny let that kid announce all his goals on the PA? A paltry 1300 turned up for that game and the atmosphere was dead in comparison. It was strange to see such a contrast in games just days apart from each other, but the majority probably thought it was a pointless game following the 4-0 stuffing at York which saw Little Willow bust his leg. How little did they know that they'd end up among the 16,000+ that went to watch us in our first ever Wembley final!

When we equalised at Wembley in 2008 my brother accidentally punched my then girlfriend in the face and caused her mouth to bleed I took my kids to that, but I had no such problem. Nobody around me was up for a 'mental' (love that terminology, ars!), it was the 'singing section' too, yet I was surrounded by the most boring bunch imaginable. The coach trip back was even worse, I shouted "GET IN, THAT'LL DO!!" at the top of my voice when I got on the coach after what seemed like an eternity celebrating in the stadium, and it was met with a library-esque silence. I figured out why on the way home though, all I could hear were people talking about United's win in the champions league final a few days earlier... C***s. I swear if we ever get to Wembley again, I'm going on the Finger Flyer.

I went on the armoury coach, full of proper fans who were giddy as anything and sat at the bottom of the upper tier, a small pocket of us but a great atmosphere!

we drove down and met up with a load of ours and some random oldham that had come with them in central london. absolutely knackered...and soaked...by the time we got back to the car which we'd left at stanmore. the greatest thing on that day was dicko's goal smacking in and having that realisation.........shouting 'f***ing hell...i think we've done it..........'
i'm one of the many who didn't go to the york game gazz. most things would have struggled to live up to the brentford atmosphere to be fair, but it's weird going to two successive home games and them being so different.

It was odd, mate, but to be fair the Autoglass games held no real promise of anything at the time, especially after the Carlisle thumping, so I can understand the lack of interest.
