I've obviously missed out on EP during its heyday.
So tell me about the best atmospheres and biggest crowds you've seen at the ground.
Genuinely...I'd love to hear your tales. Really feel like I missed out on the glory days.

Biggest has to be the first game Vs Leeds which was a disappointing atmosphere from the Leeds fans, possibly the Carlisle game when we filled EP, the best atmosphere what I remember was probably when Jim Gannon first became manager in 2006 against Cheltenham

24,080.
Stockport County vs Liverpool FA Cup 4th Round Replay. 3rd Feb 1965.
Never saw a thing as they let the first 4 rows over the Railway End wall. I was on the fifth row !!!!!
I tell a lie, Roger Hunt hit the crossbar at our end twice, which I did see. Unbelievable atmosphere particularly as County were 24th in the fourth division at the time. Pool went on to win the Cup that year.

I don't think we'll ever top the Carlisle game, getting back into the FL would struggle to beat that atmosphere.
I thought Middlesbrough at home in the 1997 League Cup semi was a decent crowd, although I couldn't tell you the official attendance for that night, it was packed. Myself, my brother and my mates all ended up sitting in different stands that night due to the massive demand for tickets.
Our kid was a jammy get, he ended up right on top of our dugout chatting with Gary Gillespie throughout the match! He told me that when we'd got a free-kick at one point and Marsden was lining it up, our kid said: "come on, Chris, top left hand corner...." and Gillespie turned round to him and said out of the corner of his mouth: "Nah, mate, bottom right!".
Crap result though, and had the officials (Elleray again) spotted that tug on Flynny's shirt by Ravanelli we could well have gone on to beat them at their place.

I would have been just coming up for 11 at the time.
Did I ever tell you that they doubled the entrance from 1 shilling and 3 pence to half a crown (12 and 1/2 new pence in present day money!!) for the game ? 5 shillings for adults.
The fact that your Grandad was at the match Gazza makes me feel old, very old !!!! Please don't tell me he was just a lad.

He was 19 when he first went to sea in WW2, so he will have been into his forties by then.

I've seen some big ones over the years, as the actress said to the bishop.
One that springs to mind was a League Cup game against Everton in the mid 70's. The crowd was reportedly about 15,000, but it seemed far, far more than that. That game will also stick in mind for ever, not because of the heaving crowd or the fact we were playing a top side like Everton, it was because some b****** nicked my scarf outside the ground.
I loved that scarf.

24,080. Stockport County vs Liverpool FA Cup 4th Round Replay. 3rd Feb 1965. Ditto. We'd moved down to Sutton Coldfield by then and I had Saturday morning school which was cancelled because of Churchill's funeral on the day of the game at Liverpool meaning that I was able to go to Anfield. Before I left to catch the train up I said to Dad that I'd have a problem getting to a replay as the train back didn't get to Birmingham until 2am and there was no train or bus back to Sutton at that time. He said, 'if they earn a replay I'll pick you up in Birmingham', presumably not feeling in much danger of having to do that. Fair play to him, he stuck to the deal.

The Carlisle game was so emotional, it was probably my largest gate at EP.
So glad it finished the way it did.
I was talking with Macc on Saturday about Halifax away when the Southend lies went around. That was one of the most exciting feelings I've had about a match.

One of the best atmospheres I can remember was beating Burnley 1-0 at home in the 97 promotion game. IT was late in the season and we were looking good for promotion but obviously needed to keep on winning. Burnley had beaten us 5-2(?) at their place earlier in the season with Paul Barnes scoring all 5.
Anyway a tight game was heading towards a 0-0 draw until Andy Mutch popped up to bag in front of the railway end with about 5 minutes to go. I was in the top tier of the Cheadle End and it was buzzing.
Other memories of that game were: a Burnley streaker (why?) wearing nothing but a claret and blue scarf, and; Toddy kneeing the ball back to Paul Jones who picked it up to a howl of protest from the Burnley fans. Anyone else remember Toody kneeing it back to Jones? He did it all the time. I remember because at the time I was in the school team so used to do it too!!!
Beating QPR in the FA Cup in '94 being in the Railway End. Strange to think now that the Cheadle End was for the away fans and the right hand section of the Main Stand! So the away fans were separated from each other. I remember giving the Main Stand QPR fans a right load of abuse!!
Everton at home in the FA Cup '95 and beating West Ham in the League Cup '96 all have to be up there.
