Hopefully, a good time to be hosting the League leaders - given their wretched festive season and our good one. A great boost, too, for us to have Rhys Turner back in the fold and available for Saturday.
But then, of course, this is County! Let us hope that the right Hatters turn up on the afternoon...
Post all the usual stuff here.

Here's some updated reading about 'em - to appear on COWS in due course...

TAKE FIVE (2018)… Salford City
By Hatter in Macc
1. So, a 100 per cent record for us in 2018 so far! Who’s up next?
Well, we are surely in for a test - as our first visitors at Edgeley Park for this year will be our near-ish neighbours from Kersal, and the current table-toppers, Salford City.
2. Ooh, what - them off the telly?!
The very same. The club has been much in the public consciousness since 2014, when five members of Manchester United’s ‘Class of ’92’ - namely, Gary and Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes - bought into it, and, the following year, had their venture broadcast by the BBC in the Out of Their League documentary-series.
Salford’s endeavours on the pitch received extra, and live FA Cup, coverage from the ‘Beeb’ during 2015/16, when the ‘Ammies’, as a Northern Premier League outfit, beat Notts County and drew with Hartlepool. Two years on, they have turned full-time and were for this term installed as pre-season favourites to go up from the National League North - having made the play-offs, while still part-timers, in their first campaign at this level last term. Giggs - whose brother Rhodri had once served as Salford’s player-manager - declared, at the outset of his involvement with the club, that it would be playing Championship-level football within 15 years. The race is on…
3. Heady progress achieved and predicted for modern times. The next AFC Fylde, then?
Hmm - in terms of advancement up the leagues, kind of. But the club from M7 has been around for rather longer than that in Wesham, after being formed, as Salford Central, back in 1940, and playing in local leagues for a couple of decades, ahead of joining the Manchester League in 1963 - coincidentally, alongside Curzon Ashton, to whom we paid a visit just before Christmas.
At this point, there was a change of club-title to Salford Amateurs - from which the ‘Ammies’ nickname comes - and what followed was a spell of great success, especially during the 1970s, when they generally cleaned up in the Manchester League, as well as in the Lancashire and Manchester county cup competitions. Playing at Moor Lane - now fully redeveloped as a Football League-standard venue, and retitled the Peninsula Stadium - since 1978, and under their current Salford City name from 1989, they have subsequently risen through the Cheshire, North West Counties and Northern Premier Leagues to get where they are today. Their red and white colours are a relatively new addition, mind. Before 2014, they sported a tangerine look, and longer ago played in navy blue.
4. What about players who have turned out for both clubs?
The links are ever-increasing in recent years! Of County’s current squad: Sam Walker and Gary Stopforth both initially joined us from Salford; Stephen O’Halloran did so for his current, second spell at EP; Matty Warburton spent the first half of last season there, before returning to Curzon en route to SK3; and Bohan Dixon was at Moor Lane in 2015. Midfielder Tunji Moses (at County from 2013-15) has completed two spells as an ‘Ammy’, while striker Chris Sharp (2014/15) and winger Chris Williams (2001-06), as well as defenders Mike Flynn (1993-2002) and Harry Worley (on our books as a teenager from 2000 to 2005, before turning professional with Chelsea), played there at later stages of their careers. ‘Flynny’ was also assistant manager whilst at Salford.
Back to the present - and, for the second time this term, we are likely to face in Salford’s central defence Carl Piergianni (2011/12), who signed up last summer following his year away from the English game. The Ammies may also field latest signing Tom Walker - who made five substitute appearances up front for County earlier in the season, before, three months ago, joining FC United where he has played as a left-back.
5. Our visitors didn’t have the greatest Christmas. Can we hit them Ammy-dships?!
Certainly, history is on our side, as Salford’s two previous visits to SK3 - in the FA Cup and NLN, within an October week of each other last season - both ended in victory for the Hatters. And, as you suggest, a return of just one point from a festive double-header with FC United has rather prolonged a dip in form for the leaders that began with their pre-Christmas home-defeat by Chorley. In fact, their most recent win (at Blyth) was over a month ago, on 2 December - when County last lost (at Brackley). Let us hope that both milestones remain unchanged, come 5pm!

I really, really hate S*****d. And any mention of the class (?) of 92. I know the feeling. Let's hope we can stall their automatic promotion push.

Brilliant post on Marionsboard:

I don’t feel any sense of insecurity about who or what we are.
We’re a hollowed-out, pale shadow of the football club we used to be. They’re a wealthier, more prosperous and more professionalised outfit.
But it’s worth remembering that we’re playing them because we’re at the lowest point in our history. They’re playing us because they’re at the highest point in theirs. Perspective."

Salford have just brought in former Hatter Tom Walker from FC United. He is certainly doing the rounds of North-West clubs in our League this season!

Excellent stuff!
This has a real 'big match' feel. I don't feel so negative as some towards Salford. Partly because it was a pleasant place to go when watching Maine Road FC, when Salford were in the North-West Counties. The locals were friendly and often Salford would contain some of our ex-players -Matty Warburton (later) and Neil Chappell earlier. Moor Lane was the last half-decent ground I ever played on and whilst it was nothing like it is now, it was still a thrill for someone like me who was more used to Hough End or Bakery Bridge!
Can't be there tomorrow - So, "Good Luck" County. A result would give real momentum and the belief that the play-offs are there to be had.
Many thanks to all the County fans who have been coming down "Ye Olde Vic" before and after the home games during 2017. You have made it well worth our while opening at 12:30 on home match days - very much appreciated!
