Greatly enjoy reading your reports, hedgie. Just to let you know, your site doesn't work properly for me when viewing in the Opera browser... the page loads but then 'disappears' leaving only the menus on the left. I can however still enjoy it using other browsers (Edge). Just thought I should say in case it's some kind of code stopping it working more universally.

proper queues from the armoury roundabout to the car park, the latter resembling a scene from 'mad max' as we were told 'park anywhere you can'. substantial queues on hardcastle road, and main stand block f unusually full, and getting fuller as the trickle of latecomers seemed to go on forever. we had a proper nasal salfordian arguing with a steward very rudely about wanting to sit in the seat he had paid for (fair point, very badly made), and oddly, three fc untied fans directly in front of us.
thought salford had most of the first half without creating much. they had one great chance foiled twice by dan cowan, with a tackle and then goal-line clearance with hinchliffe beaten. we hadn't done a lot, but after a quickly taken free kick, the ball went to duxbury on the left, down the side of the box. just as my cousin started complaining about the time it had taken to get his chipped cross in, oswell headed the offending piece of distribution into the net. we had a couple more efforts through stephenson. the first was a low drive that we were directly in line with. the 'keeper went full length to fingertip it, but it was definitely in line for the post anyway. stephenson then got a firm header, but it was pretty central and the 'keeper tipped over.
the opening to the second half was frustrating. we should have gone two clear within the first minute when stopforth, just past the far post, couldn't convert from close in. a corner was given, so somebody got something on it, and left stopforth hunched over with his hands on his knees as i'm sure he'd have loved to have notched one against them. they equalised with the next attack. pretty poor from county. it was a poor looking cross, boomed up into the air. we sit near the back of the main stand, and the cross disappeared for a couple of seconds behind the roof. this meant that the county defence had a bit of extra time than on a flatter cross, but the ball still dropped to a completely unmarked salford player on the far side of the box. he was able to take a touch before scoring. disappointing.
thought oswell was being smothered by their centre halves, but i'd still have kept him on and swapped warburton (who'd also been well contained) for rhys turner and personally would have taken thomas off for winter...but anyway, turner looked bright, although he was subjected to a 'reducer' after about ten minutes, as he was taking off down the left hand side. their player scythed into him, quick, hard, and nowhere near the ball. thought it could have been a straight red, but that wasn't the decision. thought there were several very dubious tackles from them, but also o'halloran, albeit distant over on the other side of the pitch, looked to have chased a ball that was getting away from him into a bad challenge that i also thought could have been a red.
near the end, dixon came on and scored almost immediately. he was put in on the left side of the cheadle end box, and passed low and hard into the far corner. good finish. predictably, we thought we'd won it. predictably, we hadn't. watching county and liverpool, i don't have a lot of confidence in my teams' game management. apparently the corner was dubious, but i didn't see that bit. i only saw them score the header, and then their champions league celebrations at the end, which included one of their non-playing staff wrestling with a steward. thought salford had more of the play overall, but obviously came away disappointed after them nicking a point in the very last knockings of the match. the ref must have blown up fifteen or twenty seconds after their equaliser, so that's always a gut-punch finish to a game.

also, that felt like a proper football match - just like the ones we used to know... big game, big crowd, not a great atmosphere, but at least an atmosphere, and it's not until you get one that you realise how few there are nowadays.

I hadn't previously realised how ridiculously short Jack Redshaw is. He makes Danny Lloyd look like Big Kev.
In their white and back kit, with his tiny little legs, it was like they had R2-D2 up front for them.

Just checked, and apparently he's 5'6". Presumably he was wearing heels when they came to measure him.

salfordcityfc.co.uk/matches/stockport-county-v-salford-city-06011718/From their match report "From the corner Hogan got in a challenge on Ball tight to the goal-line on the right but with the County man prostrate and home supporters baying for blood the referee felt compelled to produce a somewhat harsh yellow card". "Salford’s previously rock-solid defence has suffered the odd aberration over recent games" "Eight minutes before half-time Oswell went to ground after bouncing off Hogan but the referee correctly ignored the home crowd’s entreaties for a second yellow for Salford’s captain".

Weird isn't it because the challenge I seem to remember seeing was somewhat late and his studs were showing. They could have had little to complain about had it been red, a possibility that had obviously occurred to the Salford players judging from their reaction towards the ref. Rather strange tweet from Neville too. Anyway, at least the Salford fans have seen what a crowd looks like, something Bernard Morley acknowledged during his post match interview. I have to say I like both him and Anthony Johnson, judging by the interviews they seem a genuinely honest and up front pair.

The last thing the 2 managers said to the Salford players when they came out second half in the home match earlier in the season was 'get out there and word hard'. It's good to see most of our players really putting in a shift in now. JImhas certainly got them fired up.
