15 or so years back when I played a songwriter/publisher festival, I was chatting to the sound guy and he brought up Lloyd Cole being the most knowledgable musician he had done live sound for (knowing frequencies etc.)... just thought I would share for you fans!

Well, not so much now (more into developing my mixing) but in my late teens to mid twenties I was giving it a go, mostly in the form of singer-songwriter stuff. Nothing much of note happened in the big scheme of things buy I did get good reviews (from the Beeb to the local press), did a live performance for Channel M, a live local BBC radio slot (with interview!) and had various UK/Europe play on more alternative slots such as Claire Sturgess (XFM) and Terry Christian. An XFM play led to the Nude owner (behind Suede) who had a Sony imprint phoning me - he had already heard my stuff and requested more before but that was kinda cool. Anyway, the most lucrative thing was a sync for Skins (the non-UK versions) which, along with royalties, amounted to... less than $100. In fact, I think you can hear me on Netflix? (I don't have it). It's on the last scene/credits of an episode called Pandora (season 3, episode 4) if it's showing the BBC America version.
Oh, the memories!

That's a great story, mate. What made you give it up?

It's either that the groupies just got too big in number or I'm a recluse.

INXS: director Richard Lowenstein on ‘Mystify’ the documentary that will change everything you know about Michael Hutchence tinyurl.com/yxgrezqwI'll watch it, but I'll probably be left ultimately disappointed, as the best person to portray him took his own life 22 years ago next month - Continue to RIP, Hutch.

7pm BBC Red Button tonight
Jeff Lynne's ELO Radio 2 in Concert
Just like going back 30-40 years. The guy can still hit a tune (new and old)

Anyone ever seen Simple Minds live?
Just bought tickets for November 2020 at King's Park in Perth but only because OMD are the support act.

I saw them in 1983/84ish at the Barrowlands in Glasgow. I'm probably not the best person to ask as I wasn't really a fan. I think I was trying to impress a girlfriend who was a fan with exotic gig locations (ok, I know. I was only 20!). Can't really remember anything much about it tbh so it couldn't have been that great. Unusually, I can no longer find the ticket either.

no idea what they're like now, but hopefully OMD recognise that their earlier stuff is great, and go light on the tes-tes-t-t-t-t-tesla girls b*ll*cks.
not seen either of them, but am about to stick 'glittering prize' on youtube, because that's simple minds i can handle...

Early Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark ( ) is a far better listen, but their LPs (showing my age now) were far too 'concept' in their style for my liking. I don't think I'm the only one who put 'Architecture & Morality' or 'Dazzle Ships' on the turntable for the first time and thought "wtf is this?". If any other artist had done that they wouldn't have got away with it, but luckily for OMD, most of the singles they used to sell their albums were absolute f***ing killers!

Saw Simple Minds in the mid 80's play in the Amsterdam forest. It chucked it down but we were all huddled under polythene sheeting and credit to them they played a long set. It didn't dampen the spirits. Bought a Patti Smith tape on a stall nearby, got it home only to find it was really poor quality.
Saw OMD at the Manc Free Trade Hall - no atmosphere in the 'first half' but peeps finally got up dancing in the second and they turned up the volume.
You should have a good afternoon/evening.
