Saw Simple Minds in the mid 80's play in the Amsterdam forest. It chucked it down but we were all huddled under polythene sheeting and credit to them they played a long set. It didn't dampen the spirits. Bought a Patti Smith tape on a stall nearby, got it home only to find it was really poor quality. Saw OMD at the Manc Free Trade Hall - no atmosphere in the 'first half' but peeps finally got up dancing in the second and they turned up the volume. You should have a good afternoon/evening. You've stirred a few memories with this post. I saw Lizzy at the Free Trade Hall in the late 70's. Now that was a memorable gig. I saw Patti Smith at the Academy maybe 7 or 8 years ago. Chuffing fantastic and one of the best gigs I've seen in recent years.

I went with a guy from work whose cousin played drums for them on that tour. Only ting is I cant remember if it was the FTH or the Apollo. Springsteen in the mid 80's at the Kuip was the best concert I've been to. Played 3 hours instead of 2 and donated the profits to the children hospital. Clarence (RIP) could really play that sax...amazing.

I saw Lizzy at Belle Vue as well maybe a year or so after having bunked off school with a mate to get tickets. Dire Straits at the Deeside leisure centre and I seem to remember seeing David Bowie somewhere in deepest Staffordshire, Bingley Hall?

would have been very cool to see bowie somewhere smallish back in the day. although it feels a bit wrong him getting that close to stoke. the starman/ziggy/aladdin sane/thin white duke tucking into a couple of oatcakes after peeping in through the gates at the victoria ground...

I rediscovered one of my old CDs this week, and boy what an album it still is - here's one of the many stellar tracks off it!
The album still stands up today, a real timeless classic.

Sits between Cher's eponymous CD and The Cream of Eric Clapton on my shelves.

And after a really difficult week at work
What better way to wind down than with a bottle of very acceptable red and The Small Faces and Steve Marriott who, as front men go was the dogs b*ll*cks

RIP, Andrew Weatherall. Remixer supreme. Beat me to it, macc. Someone who could have been a household name, but many haven't heard of. This remixing defined an era... He took this... And turned it into this...

His Regret and Hallelujah remixes are also very, very good. As well as World in Motion

And this gem... a mix in two halves:

second half's the killer maccy. there's something of the summer, sitting outside sipping gin, shielding your eyes against the sun about both 'only love...' and 'nothing can stop us now'. wonderful, wonderful songs, the former entertainingly different from neil's original.
