Brought a touch of elegance when it was really missing from English cricket. Well said, Duds. Indeed, whenever he played against that great Aussie team of the 90s, they had one main objective - get Thorpe out.

Taken far too young. RIP, Thorpey.

Not only one of Thorpey and Nasser Hussain's finest performances, but also one of legendary umpire Steve Bucknor's. I was thinking of Nasser's emotional tribute to Thorpey last night during The Hundred coverage, where he mentioned his and his mate's epic victory, and just had to find an article to tell the story for me. Anyone who saw this match will remember Moin Khan and his Pakistan side taking the absolute p**s with a painfully slow over rate to try to force the draw in failing light, but in spite of this nonsense and Khan and his team's constant remonstrations, the always brilliant Bucknor was having none of it. A fantastic game that I remember watching live. www.wisden.com/cricket-news/hats-off-to-bucknor-how-old-school-umpiring-played-a-role-in-englands-karachi-chase-in-the-darkHere's some highlights of that incredible win:

This is really sad news. I’m normally given to being emotional but this has really got to me. Growing up Graham Thorpe was, not a hero as such, but one of the few England players who were world class and I appreciated him. Really underrated at the time.
The manner of his death is heartbreaking.
RIP

The manner of his death is heartbreaking. RIP I've only just discovered what happened, HH, and it really has left me cold. There really are no words.

Today's coverage of the first test v Sri Lanka has been really emotional, with lots of tributes to Thorpey, highlighting just what a massive influence he's been and what a loss he will be to the game.
A bit of a hard watch at times.

A quiet man of cricket with a great talent and often unsung.
What a terrible tragedy. RIP GT.
