there was a very good documentary on bbc4 the other night 'roger bannister: everest on the track', about the race to break the four minute mile. dunno if it's been on before, because bbc4 repeats quite a bit, but i really enjoyed it. extensive interviews with bannister, his pacemakers chris brasher and chris chataway, rivals, spectators and the like, set against a context of britain recovering its confidence after the war.
also worked for me because i lived on iffley road in oxford (where the athletics track they achieved the feat on is located - i used to walk past it every day), and i'm assuming maccy's interest after his lovely story on another thread.

Okay, it's not exactly 'TV' as such, but I've just noticed that there's a new 'Lost In Space' series coming to Netflix...
Looks interesting.

First Lost In Space trailer...
Toby Stephens heads the cast, too - this looks it could be good.

Again, it's another Netflix one, but the new Ricky Gervais 'Humanity' stand-up special is superb. If you like and 'get' Ricky's humour, then you'll like this!
Also, I've probably mentioned Dave Chappelle's Netflix specials elsewhere, but they really are very funny and right on the money topically.

Still Game - BBC1 9.30 pm Thursday nights is my favourite programme on telly. IMO there hasnt been a better 'comedy soap' since Only Fools. For those who havent seen it (and you should have as we are now into Series 8 Episode 3) its about 2 Scottish pensioners and their escapades. Watch it!

thought the documentary on the bbc last night 'funeral killers' about the sectarian murders from both sides at funerals after the SAS killed the three IRA in gibraltar was very interesting. interesting particularly to see what people's perspectives were 30 years later. these were the ones involving the loyalist throwing grenades at a republican funeral, and then the two non-uniformed soldiers being dragged out of the car at another republican funeral. chilling to remember exactly how bad it was during the troubles.

I remember the one where they dragged the two soldiers from the car, absolutely horrific. The TV news showed the footage of them trying to escape in the car before they were dragged out, which still leaves me cold just thinking about it - not least the cameraman who kept the film rolling while it was going on. I wonder just how much of that awful event they actually continued to film. Chilling indeed.

i can remember it affecting me at the time. obviously it was big news in the papers, and it just seemed to be a level of barbarism that i couldn't accept had happened in the british isles.
